Funded Aug 23, 2018Thank you so much for helping all the third grade students go on an amazing field trip to the Arboretum. The students learned about the Tongva Native Americans and entered a huge Tongva hut. They loved learning how to build a hut, climbing on a large tree, seeing a beautiful waterfall, and hiking up a trail. They also learned about early Los Angeles history and saw lots of equipment that was used in the late 1800s. The peacocks were everywhere, and the students loved seeing them! Each student received a free peacock bookmark to remember their trip.
We also toured the old train depot and the students loved learning about an ice box and seeing how small the section was for refrigeration. We saw different equipment that was used in the kitchen, including a wood burning stove that long ago was bought from a catalog and shipped by train for $25. The rain stayed away during our field trip, except for the last few minutes as we were loading the bus. This was a great learning experience and adventure. Your help covering the cost of the bus transportation is greatly appreciated! Come visit our bulletin board to see what my students loved most about the field trip!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Kugelman
