  • Purposeful Play Workshop STEM Center Storage

    Funded Sep 20, 2024

Thank you so much for your investment in my student's education. Previously, we had no storage for STEM materials. The many boxes had to be stored above classroom cupboards. Through your generous support, we were able to make all of our wonderful STEM materials accessible for students self-selection.

Every day, the students literally rush to the STEM station to collaborate with friends. I have documented so much reciprocal language growth and problem-solving as well as self-efficacy among my students.

We recently completed a project on the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. My 5 and 6 year old students were given the challenge to collaborate and build a longhouse. Each group had to determine the best building materials to use in construction. With a multitude of materials at their fingertips this was a highly-engaging and brain-building project. We never could have had this level of STEM instruction without your kind donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kuenning

  • Close-Read Classroom Literacy Library

    Funded Jul 13, 2018

Thank you so much for providing the new books for our classroom! The books aligned to our Language Arts standards and provided such rich content that sparked so many great conversations!

Some of our favorite stories were "How Many Days To America" which happened to coincide with current events and resonated with many of our refugee students. Also well loved was The Turkey Bowl and Crow Boy.

The students were able to deeply engage in reading comprehension activities, grammar and writing responses because the stories were so appealing and meaningful. There is no way I could have provided these beautiful books without your help! That being said, my students and I are truly grateful and humbled by your generosity.”

  • Calming Meeting Rug For Busy Learners!

    Funded Dec 31, 2015

The new calming rug has transformed our whole group learning experience! We no longer waste precious instructional time defining personal boundaries and remembering where we sit. All 24 of my students are able to seamlessly transition to the rug and find their very own space.

I have worked very hard on calming the entire atmosphere of our classroom this year. Every time a peer or visitor enters they exclaim out lout how beautiful the rug looks, followed by the statement that it fits perfectly with the calm theme of our room.

With your generous support, ALL of my students are able to attend and remain focused without distractions. The rug has given them a great deal of pride and a sense of community (a place for everyone). We can't thank you enough!”

  • Kindergarten STEM Inquiry Learning!

    Funded Sep 4, 2015

Words cannot adequately express my deep gratitude for your generous donation toward my kindergarten S.T.E.M materials. My classroom has literally been transformed! The educational tools have increased engagement during independent centers as well as created avenues for much conversation amongst peers.

One student cried out recently, " Look what Z. has made!!" Z. does not display the ability to communicate through language, but she beamed with pride as the other students gathered to view her engineering feat. Suddenly, much conversation erupted by the other children as they began to give language to the building project Z. had created.

The shelving units are not only breathtaking, but are bursting full of all the new materials we received as well as providing beautiful display space for found objects. The light table is mesmerizing and has prove to be a respite place for my non-english speakers to retreat from the "noise" of language for short periods. It also is a favorite focused, calming space for restless learners.

It seems each day my little friends and I find a new way to utilize the S.T.E.M materials in meaningful play and discussions. Recently, we studied the letter Xx. I was able to quickly pull-out the human X-rays we received for the light table to give instant meaning to the word.

Another day we were investigating the structure of leaves. As I tried to explain the purpose of the midrib in a leaf, I connected it to the ribs we feel in our own bodies. I then displayed the human rib piece of the floor puzzle and the children instantly made the connection!

I am forever grateful for your support of my important friends and they are sincerely grateful for you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kuenning

Thank you for stopping by our classroom today! We are one of the busiest, interactive classrooms you will ever step into. However, the noise is the din of active learners, experimenting with new language, academic vocabulary and learning the 21st century skills of collaboration and innovation. My diverse students live in an economically poor urban area. They are accustomed to neighborhoods wrought with crime and violence. Our dedicated staff is helping these students see beyond their current circumstances to become goal-setters and dream reachers. What better way to set them on the path to a brighter future than with a library of books which sparks their interests, creativity and carry relatable themes to encourage them with. These amazing learners are eager and have the capacity for high achievement. We need your help to keep them learning with current resources and learning strategies!
