Community Roundup
Funded Dec 17, 2024This is a really nice surprise. It's been a tough couple of weeks. Thanks for bringing me a smile. The students will be so happy when they hear that our lunch project got funded. I'm thinking that we'll have our get together right after the new year. Thank you again.”

Annie John
Funded Oct 3, 2024Well I had a fun day. Whenever I attend these Bard workshops, I am reminded of how much is out there that I simply don't know about. Jamaica Kincaid was the focus of this zoom conference. I've never taught her in my classes, but now I feel like I need to.
The essay that we focused on was "In History." It was all about the power of words and perceptions. Every single year I hear about how we need more Shakespeare and more other White Guy stuff. No we don't. We need more voices from everywhere. Thank you for making this possible for me.”

Food Security
Funded Oct 29, 2024Thank you so much for the yum yums. It might not seem like a big deal, but having snacks available at no cost makes a huge difference for ALL students. Plus, having these snacks gives me an opportunity to remind my students to say please and thank you. Just yesterday I had a student ask for an extra snack and a bottle of water because he didn't have breakfast. I am grateful that I don't have to send students away empty handed. I am hoping that at least some of my students will remember this kindness when they are older and perhaps help somebody else in need. Thank you again.”

Cold Case Crackers
Funded Jun 20, 2024I'm feeling really bad about not getting this thank you package in on time. The truth is that I haven't even used the Cold Case Crackers yet this year. They are still sitting on my shelf. Rest assured that I will put them into action prior to the end of the first semester.
When I used these mysteries last year, students were both delighted and flustered. The games are difficult, so they can't just wing it. My favorite part of using these items is the team work that I witness. I've also noticed that it's often the wallflowers who come to life in these group settings. Thank you again for your support, and please forgive the tardiness of this thank you package.”

Zen Life
Funded Sep 3, 2024Thank you for helping us to make our room happy and peaceful. It's especially nice in hear when the main lights are off, and all we can see is our glowing jelly fish and all we can hear is our gently flowing water.
There are also a couple of zen gardens in the room. Students love to play with them every day. For the most part, they have been careful and respectful of the gardens. I always enjoy seeing what designs they made in the sand.
If you've never seen one of the jellyfish tanks, you should check one out. They are amazing. Thank you again.”

Data Analysis
Funded Aug 14, 2024Phew! I wasn't sure that I was going to make it through this class alive, but I did it. I thoroughly enjoyed everything that I learned about my topic and about data smashing. My paper was a proposal to create a restorative story sharing program at a local animal shelter.
Here are the basics:
Stories matter. People have stories. Shelter animals have stories. When we share the animals' stories, people have the opportunity to reflect upon their own stories. Over time, people can find their way to re-membering and rewriting their stories.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Gates Foundation and 4 other donors.Marley's Monsters
Funded Sep 17, 2024Thank you so much for supporting this project. One of our goals this year is to be better stewards of the planet. Using these reusable towels is one small way for us to make a difference. The towels themselves are super soft and cute. I use them daily to clean off student desks and the chalkboard. Student helpers use them in our little cafe to clean up the counter and table spaces. I'm hoping that these will be just a first step toward our building becoming more eco-aware. Thank you again for making this possible.”

Small Joys
Funded Aug 18, 2024Thank you so much for the goodies. I have the tootsie rolls out on a table. They're a huge hit. We're back in the classroom as of last Thursday. The juniors are reading Plato's The Cave; the seniors are reading Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried; the freshmen are reading Sherman Alexie's The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I always hope that the students love the literary works as much as I do.
We'll also start writing college essays this week. Please send me your positive thoughts. Thank you again.”

It's Fall Again
Funded Jul 8, 2024Hi, Richelle. Thank you for the markers and the tissues. The markers just arrived today. Phew! The freshmen are creating a liner note project in which they pick six songs that represent who they are. They're going to decorate an album cover and do liner notes. Both the fat markers and the skinny markers will come in handy for their work. Of course, we'll be using these markers all year long. Thank you for reaching out and for helping us to continue doing awesome things at Union-Endicott High School. Big love to your and your beautiful family.”

Shelter Animals and the Community
Funded Jun 20, 2024Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Your support has allowed me to continue my work with my students and the community. I have been researching the role of the human-animal bond and how that bond can help to repair damaged relationships in the school community and the larger community. I will finish my master's degree this fall, but I will now be able to continue my research with a local animal shelter. In particular, I will track how the animals do when they are moved into their new "tiny home" communities.
Thank you!”

Mrs. Krieger
