The Pizza Imperative
Funded Apr 12, 2023Such a fun day. Pictures of it are on the district website. Thank you for always supporting us. Food is magical when it comes to bringing people together. I'm hopeful that I will be able to continue these events next year. Sometimes it's rough getting resources together.
This lunch was really nice. Our culinary teacher and our media person were serving food to the students. The teacher was taking the opportunity to remind students of the importance of food hygiene. I'm blessed to have such great colleagues. Thank you again.”

The Allegory of the Cave
Funded Apr 18, 2023Thank you for supporting this project. Unfortunately, the copies of Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" that I requested are no longer available. I replaced them with "Prince in the Pastry Shop." The new title is a bit naughty. It challenges readers to think about adulthood and friendship. Definitely not Plato, but a good story with a good theme.
I plan on using these books during the last weeks of the spring semester, right before final exams. Students are already exhausted, so this delightful little tale will come at the perfect time. Thank you so much.”

Round Robin
Funded Mar 3, 2023So. So. So grateful for this event. It took us a while to hold the lunch, but it was worth the wait. It was the first official event to take place in our new Diversity Cafe. We had about 25 students, teachers and administrators show up.
The food was wonderful, and the conversation was great. There is so much excitement for what we can do in the future. I am looking forward to holding many more meetings and lunches in this space in the future.
Also on my to-do list is organizing an event for the community. Thank you!”

Changing Perspectives
Funded Apr 24, 2023Big fat thank you to TAS. I've been able to do a lot of incredible things over the years because of my status as a Donors Choose screener. The program subscription that I purchased with this project gives me access to activities, lessons and videos that I can use to design a new course that focuses on SEL. I'd also like to work in some lessons on Executive Functions. I think teenagers would be interested to know how their brains operate. Anyway, thank you for giving me access to these important resources.”

Energize the Room
Funded Apr 12, 2023Really grateful for the access to new activities and lessons. I share these resources with the other teachers in my department, so your impact is reaching even more students.
At the moment, I am working on designing SEL curriculum for high school students. SEL includes: goal setting, increasing self-awareness, understanding biases and more. A lot of our students are floundering in our new post-COVID reality. Teaching them SEL skills is helping them to better understand their own places in the world. Thank you.”

Keep the Train Running
Funded Apr 12, 2023Thank you so much for the supplies. When I went downstairs to pick up the big Amazon box, I noticed a noise coming from the package. It sounded like broken glass. As it turns out, the 1,000 paperclips had busted out of their containers and were jingling loose in the box. I think Amazon needs to readjust its robot loading algorithm. Don't put dainty packages in the same box with heavy objects. No harm. Just a mess.
I just ran out of lined paper this week, so your support is coming just in time. Thank you. Thank you.”

Tea Club
Funded Apr 6, 2023Thanks for the recharge. I'm hoping that this will be one of our last requests for this school year. We're back from Spring break now, and the students are itchy for summer to arrive. The teachers too. Not sure why this year has been such a challenge. I've got to bring my best game to the classroom every single day from here until the end of June. Wish me luck.
Tea Club is a nice oasis. I often wish that it lasted for the entire morning. Thank you for allowing us to continue this beloved tradition.”

Facilitating Listening Circles
Funded Mar 27, 2023Thank you for funding this professional development project. I find that interactive experiences provide the best learning experiences for students and adults alike. This particular training event is online, but conducted in a way that makes each individual participant feel engaged. We each have the opportunity to facilitate and participate. There are also plenty of printed material available for download. I like to have these items printed and bound, so that I can refer to them whenever I need help. Thank you.”

Pizza Pact
Funded Mar 30, 2023Thanks for the pizza and wings. We held a Poetry for Neanderthals game last week, and the pizza and wings were the perfect complement. It's always interesting when students from different peer groups come together. There were a few who had trouble finding their voices during this event. Luckily, the silliness of the game eventually broke through and everyone had a chance to speak up. We've agreed to have a rematch after AP exams. The students will definitely need a reason to celebrate by then. Thank you!”

Always Hungry
Funded Mar 27, 2023Thank you. I'm so incredibly grateful for the snacks. They're mostly for the students, but I just ate a bag of popcorn. A boost to get me to the end of the day.
It's one week until Spring Break, and the students and the teachers are READY! Lots of last minute pleas for extra credit now that report cards are due.
I'm looking forward to the final marking period. I think the kids are too. The snacks are going to help us get through the final weeks of the year. Thank you for your support. Thank you.”
