  • Technology and Resources For Hybrid Learning

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

I have already gotten these books checked into our classroom library, and they are on the board waiting to be checked out. The Long Way Down is so popular with students that I can't keep it on my shelves, so I am thankful to have two new copies of this. Several of these books fall into diverse literature, which I am always trying to add to my classroom library.

Every day my students spend 10 minutes of class just reading. They can read any book they choose as long as they spend time reading it. I have students that finish one book a term and some that are finishing one a week. This is all done for enjoyment.

Thank you for making our blended learning situation better.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Koves

  • Coffee House Fridays

    Funded Jan 20, 2018

Thank you so very much for supporting this classroom endeavor to build engagement, excitement, and real-life experiences. It certainly makes our classroom text discussions more enjoyable for students when they have a pleasantly warm beverage to sip on while talking about books. It created an experience out of talking about literature, which was the end goal that I had in mind.

This was not something I could have done without your support. Each student that participates greatly appreciates your generous donation.

    Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Koves

  • Collaboration for Our Futures

    Funded Jan 25, 2018

We are enjoying planning our writing out with our new table-top whiteboard. We used them for our group analysis essay on President Carter's essay on preserving the National Arctic Wildlife Refuge. It allowed students to plan their paragraphs out as a group before writing. I was impressed with the depth of analysis they created, and, of course, they all snapped photos of their work to build their paragraphs.

We are looking forward to using them again to plan our responses for an argument essay on police brutality.

    Thank you so very much.”

  • Engaging in Classroom Conversations

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so very much for your generous donation to our classroom. The books will be great additions to our classroom library. I know that they will get checked out quickly by students for reading days.

The picture book will be a great opener for our unit on personal narrative and creative writing. The hope is to have students mimic the style of this book.

The blank card sets will be great for personalized vocabulary instruction. Students will now have the choice to make flashcards instead of making a paper and pencil list for vocabulary.”

  • Interactive Second Semester

    Funded Dec 17, 2017

The notebooks and colored pencils arrived today, and our new semester starts Friday. I pulled them out of the boxes and sorted them by color (we got an assortment of colors). The students have already seen them on the back counter, and they have been asking about when they will get their new notebooks.

We filled out notebooks from the fall already, and these new ones will help us create learning notebooks where all out work is in one place.

Thank you so very much for helping out my students with this generous gift.”

  • Building a Community With Books II

    Funded Nov 19, 2017

Thank you for funding these books for my classroom. The two copies of Murder on the Orient Express have already been checked out; I think because the movie is out. The Game of Thrones set has already gotten some browsing from some students; no takers yet, but I know it is just a matter of time. That series is on my list to finish as well. I love The Gender Game and keep recommending it to my students. I am sure when book talks resume after exams, we will see these books flying off the shelves in my class on a regular basis. Thank you.”

  • Healthier Futures Through Choices

    Funded Nov 28, 2017

We already have access to the online version and have used it in my classes. There are so many great articles for the students. We have looked at a sleep article in psychology; a political ideology article in government; and several options for English. It is fabulous how applicable this magazine set is applicable to so many different areas, subjects, and classes.

I am enjoying the teacher resources that come with the subscription as well.

Thank you so very much for providing this to our classroom.”

  • Building a Community With Books

    Funded Oct 18, 2017

This year my English classes will be challenged to read 1000 pages before Christmas. These books filled a shelf in my classroom library. Research states that the best way to become a better reader is through reading.

We practice reading every day and set aside one day a week for choice independent reading. During this reading time, students select their own book to spend the hour reading. I work through meeting with each student, discussing what they are reading, and offering suggestions to others.

These new books will add a much-needed modern twist to the classic-heavy library in my classroom.”

  • Reading Our Way to a 5: Part II

    Funded Aug 24, 2017

Thank you so very much for supporting my classroom. We have already shelved these books and have students checking them out to read as their independent reading. I cannot wait until we get to the book unit in psychology to see who else will pick these up as their book analysis. I have the Survivor text on my desk right now and will be book-talking it soon.

As my school works to build a community of readers, these books will provide some much-needed access to real-world texts and nonfiction sources.”

My students are high school age. Some are college-bound, but many of them are not. We live in a high poverty area where a large portion of our student body k-12 is on free or reduced lunch. By the time students reach me, many of them have jobs or are caring for younger siblings. I want to make my room a comfortable place where they can just relax and learn while not having to worry about all the things going on outside of the building.
