  • Third Grade Teamwork!

    Funded Sep 16, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous contributions to my classroom! It has been wonderful to be in person with my students, watching them grow each day. My students were able to start the school year off strong with the amount of resources donated!

Each day my students are able to enter a sanitized and clean classroom and have everything they need for success. Organization and materials allow us to maximize our instructional time each day. My students especially enjoy using whiteboards and markers each day in math. They solve math problems through drawing and representations to share to the class each day.

The use of the rug and teacher whiteboard allow us to have small groups to focus on reading and math skills each day. We are able to sit closely, comfortably and learn together on the carpet. Your donations are greatly impacting the classroom each day and we are so thankful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Korovesis

  • Room and Zoom Learning!

    Funded Sep 6, 2020

I cannot thank you enough for enriching our school year with your generosity. Due to Covid 19, my student's school year is unlike any other. Within NYC, my classroom is comprised of blended learning students as well as remote/virtual only students. To be able to support these groups of students together, your donations have provided me the ability to access many virtual resources within Teachers Pay Teachers. These resources are a great way to engage students in person and online. I have built my Google Classroom with many resources purchased with the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to make virtual learning as similar to in person learning as possible.

For all students I was able to prepare a take-home bag of school and sanitary materials. Each student received a pencil box filled with necessities such as pencils, crayons, markers, erasers, hand sanitizer and wipes. Students who spend 2 days in person and 2 days virtually are able to bring these materials back and forth from school to home. Families of remote/virtual only students were able to pick up these materials at the school and bring them home to support their children with their learning within the home. All students were so excited to be able to set up a learning environment within their home with materials to help them be successful.

I am beyond thankful that I am able to provide my students a safe, germ free classroom in person as well as an engaging virtual environment. Without your generosity this would not have been possible. My class is extremely grateful for your support in creating a meaningful school year for them during these challenging times.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Korovesis

  • Third Grade Classroom Community!

    Funded Aug 22, 2019

I cannot thank you all enough for your generosity and support in my classroom this school year! Your donations have made a significant impact on my students and have brought so much joy into the classroom. I was able to start the school year off smoothly by setting up great organizational systems. Students were able to have sheet protectors in their plastic take home folders, laminated desk name tags, pencils, crayons and homework notebooks.

The group kidney table has had a huge impact in my classroom. I am able to work with small groups daily to provide students with more support in reading, writing and math in a comfortable group space. An ESL teacher pushes into my classroom daily and is able to work with students in a small group, allowing them to grow their speaking, listening, writing and reading skills in English.

My students had the strongest reaction to the donation of dry erase markers! Their eyes lit up with excitement when they were able to write on their desks to solve math problems. This is their favorite part of the day, being able to draw math strategies directly on to their desks with dry erase markers! Thank you again for all of your support, we are looking forward to a successful rest of the school year!”

  • English Language Hands-On Learning!

    Funded Oct 29, 2018

I am extremely thankful for your kindness and dedication to my students. With your donations, I am able to provide rigorous and differentiated instruction for my English Language students. Each day, I am able to create small group centers and activities that students look forward to! Without your donations, this would not be possible!

Each Friday, students complete a literacy and math HOT task, so I am able to monitor data for state testing. Students are able to focus and remain calm throughout this testing environment with the use of the divider privacy boards. Students love using them so that they have privacy to focus on their reading and math without getting distracted. Each day, students break into small groups based on their level, where they participate in hands on activities. We use the English Language vocabulary, writing and reading kits to build skills with these English Language learners. They also use the word wall for support when writing. With the use of crayons, glue and scissors, students are able to complete word study sorts to practice vocabulary and letter sounds. We use dry erase markers daily on math materials that I am able to create specific to their needs with lamination. Throughout our math multiplication unit, students had multiplication chart stickers on their desks to assist with fact fluency, as well as multiplication/division fact family triangles.

When the students received these materials, they were glowing with excitement. It is so wonderful to be able to watch students become invested in their learning with such wonderful materials to make learning hands on and engaging. The next steps we are working on are animal research projects. Students will use pencils, crayons, privacy boards to write daily based on their animal research. We have just transitioned into our math measurement unit! Students will be using the Judy Clocks, dice and counters to assist with learning these skills.”

  • Reading Sparks Magic!

    Funded Sep 29, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Words cannot express how thankful I am for the impact you have made in my classroom! My students are engaged and expressing incredible interest in their learning due to all of the engaging books we have received. Each day, students enjoy time to independently read and be provided with a choice based on their interests.

Each day, students are engaged in literacy centers. For twenty minutes daily, students work in a small group with me to enjoy a book study process. Students truly enjoy this time to practice reading fluency, comprehension and experience new stories. We enjoy reading the story and then branch out into comprehension checks, writing activities, or word study practice based on the individual needs of each group. Many of the books provided in this project match the first grade curriculum being taught in science and social studies. We have had the pleasure of having teacher guided read alouds of these nonfiction topics. Students constantly want to go above and beyond, investigating the topics more while re-reading these books.

Students are constantly encouraged to dive into books whenever they have a free moment! Silent reading is provided multiple times a week where students are provided with independent choice based on their interests. I have created book series bins such as Amelia Bedelia, Junie B. Jones and The Magic Tree House. All of the materials that you have generously donated have greatly impacted our room! We have had an extremely successful first quarter and we look forward to all the growth and creativity to come in the future! I am so thankful for your generosity in allowing my students these moments to connect with a book and form their love for reading!”

  • First Grade Back to School Fun!

    Funded Aug 27, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Words cannot express how thankful I am for the impact you have made in my classroom! My students are engaged and expressing incredible interest in their learning due to all of the materials we have received. Each day students enjoy using multiple modalities to express their knowledge, whether it is art, technology, kinesthetic movement or music. The materials we have received allow me to plan lessons that reach all of these various styles of learning.

Each day, students are engaged in math and literacy centers. Twenty minutes daily is provided on the IPads or computers with engaging and interactive math or literacy games. Students truly enjoy this time to be independently working with their headphones. While half of the class is engaged with technology, the other half is participating in teacher created math games. I was able to create my own file folder games with the laminating resources. These games can be reused each day with their dry erase markers and magic erasers. I was also able to laminate my word wall and color code it by subject on sentence strips. Students are constantly encouraged to pull words off the alphabet word wall to assist them with their writing independence.

Crafts and creativity flow in our first grade classroom! I truly enjoy being able to provide students with the resources such as crayons, construction paper, glue, markers, and scissors to create and express their knowledge. For example, students created a Bald Eagle craft while learning about American symbols! Other crafts we have enjoyed are fact family turkeys and season dioramas! Students are also able to maintain their own organization with subject folders and notebooks that we use daily. All of the materials that you have generously donated have greatly impacted our room! We have had an extremely successful first quarter and we look forward to all the fun and creativity to come in the future!”

  • Mrs. Korovesis' First Grade Literacy Block

    Funded Aug 21, 2015

My students and I are truly grateful for your generosity in funding this project! Because of your kindness, my students are able to deeply engage themselves in the word study portion of our literacy block each day! The materials used allow the students to independently explore reading specifically on their level. Each day we look forward to getting involved in our word study center due to the amount of hands on activities all children can choose from!

Students are able to stamp out their words, become fluent in decoding words by using timers, use color coded magnet letters to spell and find word patterns, and use sentence strips to write out their word and sentences. These hands on activities thoroughly engage the students and allow them to explore words freely and with excitement!

Again, we thank you so much for your generosity in making our classroom exciting and fun to come explore in each and every day!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Korovesis
