Let’s Restock the Science Lab

Help me give my students laboratory supplies and class demonstration materials, such as a lava lamp and Newton’s cradle, so that they can see the science concepts they are learning.

  • From Frogs to Humans: Exploring Body Systems Through Dissection

    Funded Aug 29, 2024

My students are so EXCITED for the frog dissection lab! When the kits and supplies came in, my students insisted they see everything. Within the kits, there are specimens of frogs, crawfish, large crickets, and worms. These caught the attention of the students immediately. It has greatly increased their interest in the dissection. I get asked every other week, if not every week, "How much longer until we dissect the frogs?" We have not quite gotten to our Body Systems Unit yet. Unfortunately this means that the students have a little longer to wait. I keep assuring them that it will happen.

I want to express my thanks to you for so many things. First of all, you have helped me bring this lab to life for my students. They will get to explore the body systems and how they are connected in real life. Also, I feel that dissecting a frog is like a rite of passage for middle school students. Even though it is just one small thing, it has helped create such an excitement for science among my students. Thank you for helping bring science to life for my students and allowing me to experience this excitement among them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Knop

  • Organization Is Key

    Funded Sep 18, 2024

Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom. The organizational items that were purchased through Donors Choose have helped my students tremendously. Using items from this project, my students now have a dedicated place to submit completed work, separated by class periods.

I turned the bins into an area where students are allowed to store their science folders. This has helped to increase student accountability on kept notes and station work. It has also helped to decrease the number of students losing partially completed assignments in their lockers or bedrooms. Students are able to easily locate paper in the student resource center thanks to the drawer organizer.

My front dry erase boards are now home to a special shelf to help display artwork and knickknacks given to me by my students so that they can feel some pride and appreciation. On the other side of my bulletin board I keep a friendly competition going among my different class periods. They are able to see class average pre and post tests scores, which I've noticed has increased several students desire to do well on a test. Plus it has helped some students receive support from their peers as we prepare for tests. I truly appreciate your support in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

  • Getting Our Hands-on Newton’s Laws

    Funded Nov 20, 2024

I’m so excited that my project has been fully funded!! Many thanks go out to each of you that donated to this project. Any time a classroom can bring hands on learning into a lesson the student understanding increases dramatically. Thank you for giving my students a reason to get excited about Newton’s Laws of Motion. With these impact cars and weights my students can participate in a reflective learning process to help them better understand what Newton’s Laws mean and how they relate to the “real world”.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Knop
