  • All Our Writing Materials Have a Place!

    Funded Sep 5, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom project. My students and I were incredibly pleased when we received the heavy duty pencil sharpener, tabletop writing center, 10 bin storage center, and supply caddies.

The items have made quite a difference in our classroom. They allow my students to be much more independent during the day when it comes to getting certain materials that they need, especially during our writing time. The pencil sharpener makes it much easier and faster for us to sharpen our pencils. The supply caddies allow us to keep our pencils, crayons, glue sticks, highlighters, pens, and erasers easily accessible, but also very organized, at the desks. The 10 bin storage center and the tabletop writing center are used to organize all our writing materials and resources in one central location. We use the 10 bin storage center to organize the different paper that we use throughout the day. It is also used to organize the students' writing folders. The tabletop organizer is used to store our extra pencils, scissors, staplers, pens, highlighters, and writing paper so they are easily accessible when students need them. Having all of our materials organized makes it easier for my students to get what they need without needing to ask me for them. This has made it easier for me to work with students without being interrupted for simple things that the students can grab by themselves.

These donated items have helped my students be much more independent writers. My students know exactly where to find the items that they need because everything is organized in a central location in our classroom. Thank you for supporting our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

  • STEM Is The Future!: Help Us Bloom

    Funded Oct 31, 2014

My students were excited when I told them that our materials had arrived. They couldn't wait to use them. We are so grateful.

We have been using the STEM resources and digital encyclopedias to conduct research on different topics. So far, we have gotten the most use out of the copies of Microsoft Office that we received. I have been teaching my students how to use various aspects of Microsoft Word. Lately, they have been using the program to publish their informational writing. I have even shown them how to add a table of contents.

These resources have allowed my students to conduct research more easily and have helped them become more familiar with Microsoft Office. My students really have enjoyed using the resources. They also enjoy learning new ways to use the computers as tools to improve their learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fortuna

  • Technologically Challenged: Help Us Enter the 21st Century!

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

Thank you so much for helping us get computers in our classroom! The first day that I set the computers up, my students were so excited that they could not concentrate on their lessons. They have been enjoying using them tremendously and look forward to the day that they are able to use them.

On most days, during our silent reading time, I call a group of students to work on the computers. Sometimes they are playing educational games or practicing typing. Now that I have Microsoft Office installed, I am also helping them learn how to use Word so they can type up some of their writing. Last month, we also used the computers to help students research artists for their research reports.

The resources we have received have helped my students become more familiar with technology and how it can be used in an educational setting. Playing the learning games gives them an opportunity to practice what they have learned. The computers also give students who may not have access to computers at home a tool to do research and further their learning.

Thank you for supporting our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fortuna

  • We LOVE Reading But Our Library Needs More Than Just Books!

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

My students were so excited to receive the materials that your donations funded. The day that I opened the boxes that contained the bean bags, my students cheered and couldn't wait for their turn to use them. Additionally, they are excited each time I add a new magazine to our classroom library.

Every day during silent reading time, I choose a student to sit in each bean bag. They are allowed to sit wherever they want in the classroom and read their book. Since receiving the bean bags, my students look forward to silent reading time more than they did before. During silent reading time, I also give students the opportunity to read one of the Scholastic News or Time For Kids magazines. They really like having these as an option for reading.

The bean bags and magazines make silent reading time more enjoyable for my students. As a result, I have noticed that they look forward to silent reading and they enjoy it more than they did before we received these resources.

Thank you for helping my students love silent reading!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fortuna
