• Phonics Partner Games!

  I am excited to start off another year of teaching first grade! I will use the phonics games purchased with the funds from Teachers Pay Teachers with a new class this year. The fun thing is that these games will be used again and again over the years!

  Children love to play and these games will help them to learn phonics skills while playing! I hope to make the classroom a fun and playful place that first graders want to be!

  I had a chance at the end of the year to purchase and play the games with my class. They really enjoyed them. There were engaging and a few children even asked to play them when is wasn't phonics time! Thank you!”

• America and Citizenship for First Grade

  Thank you for donating to this project! So, sorry for the late thank you! The busy school year got away from me!

  The students in my class LOVE to be read to during lessons. The books in this project are perfect for teaching about America!

  We are going to read the books about presidents in February and the American Symbol books in May. The books will add to my Social Studies unit!

• Working with Words

  We have been so busy in first grade! Time is passing and I haven't written our impact letter! Well, we have enjoyed the materials from this Donors Choose project so much!

  The children love the Go Fishing word game! I watched a child use the hidden spelling game the other day and he did a little cheer when he spelled the word correctly! They are learning as they are playing and they don't even realize it! It is great to see the students engaged in learning words in way that is is fun!

  We will be using these materials in first grade for many years to come! Thank you!”

• Brain Breaks

  Phew! It has been a year! We were remote, hybrid and in person all in one year! The children actually handled it all really well! In fact, I was amazed at their flexibility and endurance!

  Since we were all in person at the end of the year we had a chance to use the materials. The children loved the search and find books. They also enjoyed building with the Plus Plus blocks. One little boy made a pink pig out of the blocks! Another little boy looked up at me while he was playing and said, "Gee, this is a really great building toy that I have never seen before!" They were really creative with them.

• Math Time Screen Break Bins!

  We are already using our math bins in class! I had another teacher walk into my room when the class was using the bins and she was so impressed at how focused the class was!

  The children are loving the puzzles and logic games! They have been asking to use the bins when we are on our free choice time!

  I love to see their little faces light up when they solve a puzzle or build an interesting shape or structure.

  The children are learning and flexing their brain muscle while they are playing!

• Becoming Readers

  Thank you for your donations! This year is such a different school year! We have started out fully remote. So, my pictures are a little boring. They are just showing me and my computer! But, I am using the materials that you gave me!

  The guide book is helping me to plan virtual phonics lessons and activities. I used the picture cards to support these activities. It helps to hold up the card when I saw the word because my mouth is covered by a mask! The children use whiteboards and magnetic letter tiles to build words and sort sounds by beginning letters.

• Magic Math

  WOW! The class is already loving the LCD tablets!

  We used them for math and they worked great! The children were presented with word problems and then they used their tablets to solve the problems. It was fun to watch them work. Then we called on students to come up and show their problem solving strategies to the class. The pictures show this great work!

  We have so many fun ideas for these tablets. We are going to use them to have the children respond in writing to reading questions also.

  The children have also been enjoying just writing and doing art on them!

• First Grade Builders!

  Thank you for supporting my students! We waited a long time for this project to get funded! We were so excited when the materials arrived! The children love the Keva Planks. The pictures show how much fun the class is having with them!

  There has been a class challenge to see who can build the twisty tower (as seen in one of the photos). The children are also loving to make ball tracks with the blocks. They have been excited to build the tracks and roll the balls down them on a count of three!

  These planks certainly make first grade more fun! There is a lot of engineering going on in our classroom, thanks to you!”

• "Just Right" Readers

  Thank you to the BES PTO for helping me to fund this project for my classroom!

  The books came yesterday and we started using them today! They are perfect for reading groups!

  The kids were really excited about the little comic books. They were giggling while they were reading! They also liked the stories with animals in them!

  Children need to read lots of books at their independent reading level in order to make reading gains! This project helped to do that!

• Cultivating Mindfulness

  The first graders are already using the items from this project and school just started!

  We have been using the tongue drum for peaceful mediation time after lunch. The children lay on the carpet and listen to the drum to calm their bodies after a busy lunch!

  The peaceful harp music CD has been used during writing time everyday! In fact, the children are requesting it because the love it so much!

  We have been using the rain stick to help them gather on the carpet. The students clean up and try to come to the rug before the "rain" ends.

  Our plan is to use the guided mediation CDs, Tai Chi books, and more through out the year! We appreciate all you have done for our classroom!”
