  • Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islanders!

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to the project "Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islanders!" With our population of students that have Asian American and Pacific Islander heritages these books are powerful in their hands! They can see main characters that look like them and share the same cultural values. For our students that have other ethnicities and cultures they can also read these great books and gain empathy and understanding of cultures and values that are different from their own.

These wonderful books will be read by hundreds of students that pass through our school library doors for years to come. Our school is so very grateful for your thoughtful donation to our library! It is a bit more vibrant with new books for our wonderful and curious readers in sixth, seventh and eighth grade!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Library

  • Mental Health Help

    Funded Apr 11, 2022

The impact of your donation will last for years to come in the First Creek Library. To start I created a display of the new books with a simple sign stating "Mental Health Awareness." I put sticky notes on each book enticing students to read each book based on the mental health issue addressed in each book.

We have approximately 500 students that pass through the library each week. So many of the books got checked out the first week that the display of books was quite empty at the end of the first week. I also alerted the counselors in the building that we had books available for students that were seeking solace by reading the books addressing these issues. They have sent several students to the library to check out the books you donated. The impact of these books is much needed for those who check these books out. We are thankful for you and your donation.”

  • Project Lit Class Set

    Funded Jan 1, 2022

Thank you so much for donating this set of books. The book timeline setting is for the beginning of 6th grade in the fall. We are set to read this book together in our Lunch Bunch Reading Club that will start up in September 2022. My hope is to build community through reading this book together. I hope to facilitate a student led book club where they agree to push and encourage each other to read a set amount of chapters each week. We will gather for some lunch and discussion one day a week until we finish the book. Our goal and hope is that reading this book together will build community among our 6th grade students as they launch in to their first year of middle school. We look forward to having these books available for thirty of our enthusiastic readers!

Thank you for facilitating our ability to create this book club. We will continue to read this book for many Septembers to come in hopes to build community and friendships through communal reading.”

  • Warm Feet and Warm Hands Are Delightful!

    Funded Dec 30, 2021

These socks and gloves arrived just in time! The week after they arrived we had a cold snap and many of our students did not come prepared to go outside during lunch break and after school. Many of the gloves got handed out to students the very first week after they arrived. The socks came in handy for some of our needier students. The socks worked great for keeping the student's feet warm during the cold weather. Also, the socks worked great for students that needed them for PE class and sports! Thank you so much, our students are very grateful for your generosity!”

  • We Want to Read Manga Please!

    Funded Dec 30, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to this project! In September 2021 our students took a survey and the one thing they wanted more of in the school library was Manga books! Boy did this project provide a dream come true for our Manga loving students! We had to clear off two whole shelves to provide enough space to display these books. The shelves are are almost empty because so many students have been checking out these books and reading them. In the picture you can see that one of our students loves "My Hero Academia" so much, they have a sweatshirt to match the book. Thank you so much for donating to this project! Our students LOVE these books so much and we are so grateful for your generosity!”

  • The Power of a GREAT Book!

    Funded Nov 27, 2021

Thank you so much for donating these great books to our Library. Over seven hundred students have access to borrow these books out of our school library. These books talk about important relevant non fiction topics as well as high interest lower reading levels for our students that struggle with their reading skills. These books have been checked out a lot since they arrived in the library. Students love having the choice to read topics that interest them and new books added to our library creates a lot of interest! Thank you for your generosity!”

  • Graphic Novels to the Rescue!

    Funded Nov 6, 2021

The Graphic Novels you donated to our library are a big hit and are getting checked out constantly! They are so popular they almost never sit on the shelf waiting to get checked out! Students place holds on these books and the list of holds gets deeper and deeper as students patiently wait their turn to check out these new books! Our students practically run to the shelves to check them out. Thanks to your generosity, these books have motivated many of our reluctant readers to begin reading for pleasure! Graphic Novels for the WIN!

We are so thankful for your generousity!”

  • Project Lit, Promoting the LOVE of Books!

    Funded Nov 16, 2021

The books you donated to our school library are a big hit and are getting checked out constantly! I have students reading stories that reflect their situations. The book "Free Lunch" impacted one student so much that they were asking for more books by the same author and same subject. Another book, "When Stars are Scattered" talks about the experiences of a young person growing up in a refugee camp in Kenya. This allows my students to peek in to the experiences of students their age in different countries and settings.

Sometimes when students come to the library with their ELA classes, I do something called "First Chapter Fire." We read the first chapter of one of the Project Lit books you donated. Lots of times there are so many students that want to check out the book to see what happens next we have to to a drawing to see who gets to check out the book! Thank you so much for donating these books to our library and to the students here at our school We appreciate having so many new diverse books to read!”

  • Giant Activities for Library Fun!

    Funded Nov 2, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to our project. The materials for this project began arriving in the mail and I was immediately able to open the packages and put them out for our students to use. I run a "Lunch Bunch" during lunch time several times a week and the library is an alternative place to visit instead of going outside. The games and puzzles donated to this project really have helped build our student community. In the photos (if you could see under the masks) the students have big smiles and are really enjoying using these items you donated. Thank you so much for your generosity! These games and puzzles will be used in this library for years to come as many, many students visit during our fun library Lunch Bunch!”

Our Middle school library serves more than 700 students. Our student population is highly inquisitive, energetic, and motivated to direct their own inquiry-based learning through exploration of library resources. Our school has an incredible group of students from a richly diverse range of backgrounds. Unfortunately, high poverty is part of the daily experience for most of these learners. Our wonderful students deserve to have every advantage of access to new books in which they can see them selves and look into other perspectives through books that feature characters different from them. This year we are focusing on closing the achievement gap and creating a school full of confident, successful students.
