“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.”— Louis L’Amour Inspiring students to write by playing with LEGO and giving them a purpose to do so with technology is the key to writing success. Writing is a difficult subject for students. They either love it or hate it. There is no in between. For some, just getting started is a huge undertaking. I would like to inspire the ones who have a difficult time beginning their writing. Having something to look forward to like building with LEGOs might do the trick. This will help them to visualize the story. After building, they will have time to plan out and explore different writing genres. Integrating technology to showcase their written work should add to the fun in writing. I was planning on using Seesaw digital portfolios, which allows students to record and others to give comments on the performance. During distance learning, one student created a puppet show and filmed the retelling of the Three Little Pigs. This particular student doesn't enjoy writing, but came up with this project on her own. It gave her writing a purpose. For this child, it allowed her creativity to flourish while integrating her writing. Other students commented on her creativity. The class commented during our google meets. It was very entertaining and memorable. I am hoping to create the same learning experience for others so they will see how writing can flow once you get started and we write for a purpose.
