Social Emotional Learning in Preschool
Funded May 18, 2024Thank you for supporting Early Childhood Special Education. Social Emotional Learning is the foundation for success in students' future academic careers. These yougn three and four year olds are learning about feelings and coping mechanisms to deal with a variety of feelings effectively in the classroom setting and beyond. Your donations have created an age appropriate library of books that share feelings and replacement behaviors at the level necessary for these young learners. It enhanced the materials we have in our quiet corner so that students are eager to use a calming area as a positive preventative measure of self regulation. Students are learning to identify when they need a break and strategies to regulate their feelings so that they can return to the whole group or small group learning centers. Thank you so much for helping these young learners be successful each day in school.”

Funded Mar 27, 2024Our puppet area has come alive thanks to our new puppet stage. It is a bright and welcoming addition to dramatic play. Furthermore the puppet stand has brought the puppets out of a container, so students are much more likely to choose them to play with.
This addition is encouraging students to use the puppets. As a result, we are able to practice speech and socials skills during play periods where students were not motivated before. The puppet stage invites the students to join in. The ability to open and close the curtain and even say, "The End," excites several students. The speech teacher is incorporating it into her activities as well while she is in the classroom.
Thank you for your dontations. This is an amazing resource for young learners!”

Funded Jan 24, 2024The students are enjoying the writing additions that you have made possible for our classroom.
The magnetic boards are fun while students learn to hold a "writing tool" and practice the fine motor skills necessary to be able to write in future years of school. The love that there are a few colors to choose from in both the boards and the magnetic pens - it increases their motivation. They are able to practice holding the magnetic pens as they will need to hold a pencil or other writing tools. They also get to practice precision in order to pull up the magnetic balls into the slots they desire.
The magnetic writing boards are perfect for young students. The letter cards and number cards show the correct way to form letters (both capital and lowercase) or numbers as well as picture to count on the back side of the number cards. The area to practice the letter or number is large enought for students to be successful and small enough not to be overwhelming.
Thank you for your support to these current student and future students in the Early Childhood Special Education class.”

Simple Machines
Funded Nov 29, 2023Thank you for making our Simple Machines Study an exciting learning opportunity for the young learners in our Early Childhood Special Education class. The simple machines allowed for students to discover these new concepts with hands on exploration. The enjoyment was evidenced in their expressions and language as they engaged with the gears, screws, inclined planes, wheel and axle, levers, and pulleys. They were able to manipulate their play to see the changes that resulted in the effects of their actions. Your contribution made this study a great addition to our program.”

Funded Oct 3, 2023Thank you for your kindness and generosity in supporting this project. This project not only provided educational and fun materials for the classroom; it also enhanced the diversity decorated throughout areas of learning in the classroom. The students really enjoy the Differing Abilities puzzle set and Soft and Safe Children with Differing Abilities. The items are incorporated into the play areas right alongside the other items so students naturally experience an inclusive experience. In terms of books, It's Okay to be Different has always been a favorite. Our old copy was worn out, so the replacement is greatly appreciated. The also particularly enjoy Little Taco Truck with all the different food types.”

The farmers market is a faovrite of the students. The food items and baskets provide numerous educational opportunities while playing.

Funded Aug 31, 2023Thank you for your contributions to our Hands On Storytelling Donors Choose project. The preschool students are enjoying literacy and learning with the three storytelling kits: No David, Brown Bear Brown Bear, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar - all favorites of preschoolers.
The kits are being used for literacy in a whole group wherein all students can participate due to the pieces from the kits. They are further used both in small groups and individually by students. The students are able to retell the story as well as share parts that they like.
Thank you for enhancing the literacy experiences in our Preschool for All Learners program.”

Funded Apr 17, 2023The students in the classroom both during the regular school year and the extended school year summer session have enjoyed the addition of the dolls that reflect the diversity in the classroom. The students particularly enjoy using the wheelchair and the seeing eye dog with the dolls. They also appreciate the variety of dolls as we now have boy and girl dolls with many different looks. We have both traditional dolls as well as cloth dolls. The cloth dolls have enabled students that struggle with grasp to hold onto the dolls more easily and engage while everyone around them plays in the dramatic play area.”

Funded May 27, 2023Thank you for supporting our Early Childhood Special Education class. This class is filled with young learners just starting their school experiences. They come to school with a variety of needs and special education services. Your support of this project provided our class with necessary toys for early child development so that all students can play with them. Students are engaged with the lights, music, sounds, colors, textures, and movements - all of which support exploration and cause and effect relationships. Students are learning through play, which is what preschool is all about.”

Funded Apr 3, 2023Thank you so much for supporting Early Childhood Special Education and specifically incrasing literacy in our classroom. The big books are such fun for the students as they provide the large visuals of the stories so that all students can enjoy at once.
The big book kits also provide engaging supports for each story, including realia, puppets, picture sticks, etc. The students love using the supports during story time. They are also able to sequence and participate in comprehension through these items.
