The magic of being a Kindergartener is having the opportunity to listen to inspiring stories, and learn how to read. Having the right stories can cultivate a child's life long love of reading. I absolutely love the dialogue and questions that come from my kiddos after reading a story. This engages them in a deeper level of learning from a young age. Although I have many classic books in my classroom library, I desire to have a selection of stories that my students can see themselves in and connect to. With books like "Black Is A Rainbow Color" and "All Are Welcome", I will be able to provide opportunities for discussing important topics where they all feel seen and heard. One of the best way to increase equity in the classroom is to begin with the materials that students are interacting with. With these new reading materials, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that reflect who they are, empowering them as learners and individuals. My students already have a love for reading and this project will only help to deepen their experiences with printed word.
