  • M&M Village is Under Attack! Math Project

    Funded Dec 6, 2011

It is with much gratitude that I write this letter to you. Without the generosity of donors like you, my students would not have the supplies and materials such as construction paper and markers to creatively express their mathematics. I have been able to use the materials for several projects, including the M&M Exponential Decay project.

Our school, like many schools across the nation, is suffering from budget restraints. The enrichment materials add so much value to learning! Without donors like you, my students would not have activities and learning projects like these. You have made math more alive for these students and I thank you for that.

Please continue to donate to classrooms like mine.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kim

  • I Love Math!

    Funded Oct 4, 2010

Thank you for your generous and wonderful donation to my math students. My students use the math dictionaries all the time. I have found it very convenient to assign vocabulary and writing-based projects because I have the resources to help students learn and understand math terms. Instead of only relying on the algebra textbook, students have additional resources to look up vocabulary words and math concepts.

The students and I are also very grateful for the supplemental algebra 2 materials that you donated to the classroom. We use the workbooks to review concepts and practice skills before tests.

Without donors like you, my students wouldn't have the supplemental materials and supplies that help make the classroom more engaging and interesting. I appreciate your interest in seeing my students succeed academically. Please continue to support teachers and students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kim

  • Communicating in the Real World: Sharing Mathematics

    Funded Aug 30, 2010

Thank you for your generous donation! My students really enjoy sharing their math work, projects, and graphs on the Elmo projector. The projector really allows students to share ideas, show work with the entire class, and even allows students to take a leadership role and teach in front of the class.

As you may already know, our school is having a budget shortfall and if it weren't for donors like you, I would not be able to bring technology and creative teaching into the classroom to engage students in their learning. Both the students and I thank you for your caring support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kim

  • How Many T-Shirts? Flipbook Project on Systems

    Funded Aug 6, 2009

Thank you for the school supplies that you have donated to my students. They used the color paper, glue sticks, color pencils, and the other materials you provided to create a math book on algebraic functions. The students really enjoyed the project and learned to graph and use critical thinking skills to explain and analyze each problem.

Our school is suffering from the budget crisis and as a result, our students are left with little to no resources for creative projects and lessons. Thanks to your support, I am able to engage the students in learning mathematics and as a result, we are making academic gains in our inner-city school.

My students and I appreciate your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kim

Thank you for looking at my page! My students and I appreciate any help you can give. My students attend an inner-city public high school in Los Angeles. As a math teacher to over one-hundred fifty students each year, majority of my students begin the school year timid and fearful of math. I try to counter their negative perceptions of mathematics by inspiring students to think of mathematics as a language and a gateway to a whole new world of possibilities. I often include real-world problems in my lessons by delivering activities that students find engaging - lessons on running a clothing business, maximizing profit, discovering impedance of electricity using imaginary numbers, mathematically determining whether Kobe can make a basketball shot using quadratic functions, and discovering the disease rate (exponential decay) of a "village of sick m&ms. We have fun and learn rigorous math at the same time!
