The students in our central Massachusetts school come from an urban setting and over 75% of our population are from low income families. In our second grade classroom, we are fortunate to have a multicultural setting of cultural backgrounds from the United States, Albania, Ghana, Haiti, and Latin America. Many of these students are recent immigrants, therefore they are English Language Learners. Our school's best practices includes guided reading where our students can receive small group instruction that is tailored to their needs and abilities. Our work continues with Reader's Response journals and building our comprehension skills.
