I teach in a low-income elementary school in Kentucky. We send home supply lists, but we know that we will not get very many supplies sent in. My school is a Title I school, so we get to take our students on field trips for free, otherwise they would not be able to experience them. My students are 5 and 6 year old who are so excited about learning. They love to come to school and learn how to use the computers, and the Smartboard. They love technology, but they just don't get enough exposure to it. The students that I teach are not sure of where they might be living in a week, they are not even sure that they will be back with me next week. They lack support at home to help them learn, they lack good role models to teach them respect, and they lack the knowledge of what they world is really like. My goal is to teach them all of this, and prepare them for the real world. Without technology, I cannot prepare them for what will be expected of them in the real world.
