Only One You - Part 2
Funded Apr 6, 2018Words cannot express the gratitude I have for you Mary McD from Brooklyn. Your second generous donation was an amazing surprise. It allowed me to purchase more paint markers and rocks for my Only One You project. The students had a wonderful time creating their rocks and using new materials, like the paint markers. They were amazed at how they worked and the effect they left on the rocks. The outcome was so amazing. Each child's rock is so unique and special like they are. That is just what I was hoping for. our next step is to look for a place in the Peace Garden for the rocks and give them a home. Thank you again for supporting teachers and students of Brooklyn. We are eternally grateful.”

Light Up Cards
Funded Aug 3, 2018This project was more exciting that I imagined. We explored how to create a circuit. We started off slow with the original way - a D cell battery and a paper clip and little light bulb. I then introduced the students to the copper tape and the button batteries and the colored lights. Their eyes sparkled with excitement. Then, the students went straight to work on designing their art work - where was the light going to go in their design? What path did they have to tape out for the circuit to connect? Endless exploring. Endless questions. This simple project has exploded the imagination of the fourth and fifth graders who are taking part in the project. Students who normally do not get excited for STEM class were stopping me in the halls with ideas. I cannot express my gratitude enough. This project was an amazing experience for my students and for me as a teacher. Your generosity has opened such a learning window for my students and myself. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

A Coding We Will Go!
Funded Mar 27, 2018I am eternally grateful to Ripple for their amazing donation to Donor's Choose. It is because of companies like you that teachers like me can fulfill dream projects for our students. I was given the position of STEM teacher in my elementary school. WE never had aa STEM position and there was no materials. That is why I turned to Donor's Choose. Coding is the future of our students. I think its important for them to learn the language early and that base will be a strong platform for them to build upon. The students were so excited to use the Robot Mouse. They went right to work collaborating in groups to get their mouse through the maze they created. They just are naturals when it comes to coding. I cannot wait to build upon what we did next year and see what they come up with. Thank you again for your generous donation!”

Funded Dec 26, 2017Thank you so much for your generous donation. This project was special from the beginning. It was unique. Who would order a bunch of rocks for students to paint? Mrs. Incorvaia did! At PS 119, we have a special focus on the whole child - social, emotional and academic. After reading Only One You!, the students brainstormed on paper, how they were each unique and special. The students then got creative and planned out how they wanted to decorate their rock. Their reactions when they saw the rocks was priceless. They couldn't believe that they were painting on rocks. The paint markers were a big hit. They were so excited to draw on the rocks and were amazed that the paint stayed on. It took us a few lessons to finally finish. We plan on putting these rocks into our school Peace Garden and hope for it to become a permanent part of our school. They each are a part of PS 119 and they are each special and unique. We only received enough rocks to complete this project with a few classes, so my hope is to continue with the help of our administration. My vision is a dry river of painted rocks in our Peace Garden. Thank you again for your generosity and support of education. We will be forever grateful for people like you. May you have peace and happiness in your life, always.”

STEAM Makers Space
Funded Nov 4, 2017Words really cannot express our gratitude to you for your generosity. Your donations to our Makers Space project has really opened up a lot of doors to many new projects. We have supplies in the classrooms such as paint, markers and paper and scissors. I don't have to share with the art teacher or worry that she needs them the same time we do. The students don't have to worry about running out of paper or not having markers to color with. Your donation allowed us to get a class set of scissors, so we don't have to wait to use a pair because we have to share.
The students were so excited when the boxes arrived. They couldn't wait to open them and start using them. We have done so many projects already using the materials. One project the second grade classes did was listen to the story Leafman. It is about a leaf man who flies around the countryside. They then used the paint and the paper to paint their leafman flying over Brooklyn, New York. The third, fourth and fifth have used the scissors and paper to explore cutting snowflakes. We have discussed the characteristics of a snowflake and went exploring. Since we have the paper, if a child learned what doesn't make a snowflake they can take another piece and try to find out what works.”

Funded Oct 13, 2017I want to thank you for your donations to our project, " A Code-tasing way for little ones to learn". Words cannot express how grateful my students and I are for your generosity.
The Code-a-pillar was an idea I had to help introduce coding to grades Kindergarten to 5th grade. I wanted them to get used to the language of coding. Coding is in their future and it's important for them to have the background knowledge at an early age. The code-a-pillar is really designed for ages 3 to 6, but I found that even the older students benefit and enjoy using the code-a-pillar. The students get so excited when we take out the code-a-pillar. They have named them Cody, Sparky, and Zack
The students work in teams to get get the code-a-pillar to travel from point A to point B. It's is helping to build the skills of cooperation and communication. The students love when they get the code-a-pillar to the end point without bumping into objects such as a desk leg or chairs.
I have seen a growth in communion with the students with dimensions of difference. They are talking to each other more in the group and are building patience while they wait their turn.
I'm already thinking of different ways to use this tool. I want to have the older grades build a maze and have the code-a-pillar travel through the maze. I think the possibilities are endless with this tool and the excitement the students have will continue to drive their learning.”
