  • Bright, Colored Supplies for Motivated Students!

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

Thank you for sending us all of the supplies we have requested! The students have benefitted greatly from having our supplies. I've been able to use the sentence strips for important morphology examples. I've been able to use the writing paper for their writing journals. The white board markers allow me to display tremendous amounts of information on the board. These supplies are used everyday for our routine tasks. It's such a great help to my classroom and their learning. Thank you so much for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hurley

  • Small Space, Accelerated Learning!

    Funded May 9, 2023

Thank you for giving us this awesome kidney table for my small groups. I am able to meet with my small groups of 6 students and I am able to give them each individual attention as they work through their reading. I meet with my students everyday at the allotted time with my assigned grades. This kidney table allows us to create meaningful routines all the while remaining focused on our educational goals: practicing phonics and reading comprehension. Before having this kidney table, we sat in a long, rectangular table and I was not able to get to each student. Now that I have this kidney table, each student has time with just me!”

  • Flexible And Resourceful

    Funded Jan 30, 2023

We are using our boards everyday and the students are able to participate and write on the board! It's been wonderful to have extra storage and a space where we can all come together and work on the white board. We have been using but board every small group session. These intervention sessions help students learn the English language through fluency and phonics practice. The white board has helped tremendously in projecting work from the small group for learning and copying. The students and I are so grateful for your donation. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

  • It's All in the Details

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

The containers, white boards, trays, and bins are used daily in our small group activities. Students know where to place their work, where to obtain their work and love the new responsibilities they each have in their learning. It's been such a great help with my bins and trays. Everything is organized and utilized in a structured, routined manner. It helps keep the students and I focused on our daily learning goals. We are so grateful for your generosity. Because of you, I am able to do my job and do it well! Thank you so much for your donation. I've included a few pictures of the materials used in action!”

  • Hands-on Practice for Language Learning!

    Funded Aug 8, 2022

Thank you so much for giving my students a hands-on opportunity to learn the American phonetic/sound system. These activities will help build a strong foundation for my students to learn how to read and to keep this skills as life long readers.

One of the ways in which we use these activities is during our initial meeting in our groups. We review sounds of the vowels and then we move onto our small booklets that allow the students to feel each word as they are pronouncing them. This type of kinetic learning assists in their acquisition of phonetic rules in the American English sound system.

I can honestly say that my students and I are so humbled and grateful for the generosity that was received by all of you. Thank you and God bless you.”

  • Chronicles of Narnia: How Far Can Your Imagination Take You?

    Funded Apr 7, 2022

Reading this book at the end of the school year was just so much fun! My co-teacher and I shared the news of the funding from generous donors to obtain Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and the students were ELATED! We were able to read the entire book at the end of the school year and talk about so many themes including what it's like to be in a new place since so many students are ELL students and have come to a new country!

We just wanted to thank you for the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to donate to our humble class and giving the students the opportunity to have an imagination and to travel to a whole different world by reading this beautiful and action-filled book! Thank you so so much!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hurley

  • Let's Bring Science to Classroom Life!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

We started on Matter and Energy in Plants and were able to use the tubs that we bought. The students were so excited when we received are two big boxes of materials! I was so excited to go through the boxes with them. I explained to them that because of the generosity of others, we are going to be able to have an hands-on experience with science and learn by doing. We have already been using the tubs multiple times per week. To say that they had an impact on my students as well as myself is an understatement. The tubs are truly making science come to life and fun to learn. I cannot thank the donors enough for helping my students have a hands-on experience with learning science. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

  • Dictionaries Help Students Learn!

    Funded Mar 31, 2019

When I returned to work this year, we were informed that our school library would be closed because of budgeting issues within the city. We were all devastated as we always use the library for classes, to take out books, to use dictionaries, and for many other resources. Many students were particularly saddened because they used to be able to use the library for after school help and now that is no longer available. One day before school started I went into the library to see if they were any translation dictionaries left over so that my EL students could use them in class. I was surprised to see that there were none! In the past we had such a vast resource of dictionaries for students to use in class as an additional support for language comprehension. Not having this resource really impacted the students ability to have an on-hand, immediate ability to look up words and understand their use in context. I went out and bought a couple of dictionaries to try to provide some assistance. When I realized how much money it would cost to have just a few dictionaries, I was so saddened that I could provide such a basic requirement for the EL students. While talking to one of the instructors as school, they informed me to try DonorsChoose.org. That's when I went online and decided to put in a request for help. Your purchase of these dictionaries has truly helped all the students in my classes. They use them everyday for all activities. They loved that they have an immediate resource at hand. I am so grateful for your generosity! I can see the difference the students have now that they have been provided with a basic need: dictionaries.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hurley

We read and write so much in our class. Using the internet isn't always feasible for students because my students do not have individual computers and they are not able to use their phones in class. Students need to see the word that they're looking up in action. Using a dictionary helps students understand how the word is used in context in their home language and the target language: English. I have been in need of dictionaries all year long and I was only able to provide a few at my own expense. Thank you for taking the time to read about my project!
