My students need these materials in order to apply their knowledge through a different outlet other than simply math problems. Using protractors and compasses, the students will be able to use math in order to show their abilities through art, architecture, and how geometry is used outside of the classroom.
One of the many way students could use these materials include for students to work together in making a blueprint for a home or business that they would want to build. They would have to ensure that the walls are parallel and that the corners are exactly 90 degrees so that the building is structurally safe. Also, while working on these projects, we would be able to have a true blueprint to use as an example. After the groups form their blueprints, then the groups will grade each other based on a rubric.
