Smart Storage Solutions for Students
Funded Jul 22, 2024Thank you so much for helping to get my project funded. Being able to have enough storage to organize student tools and materials, and make them easily accessible, really helps the school year to run smoothly. Thank you for your generosity and for making the start to my school year absolutely amazing!”

Build Readers with a Classroom Library
Funded Jul 30, 2023My first graders love reading time in the classroom because they get to fill up their book boxes with books from our classroom library. Our new books give them so many topics and characters from which to choose.
I love seeing what each student chooses for his/her book box every week. Having current, interesting titles makes their reading journing fun and exciting!
Thank you so much for helping me to create this amazing classroom library for my students. I couldn't have done it without your generosity!”

Super Stories In Spanish
Funded Mar 30, 2023Thank you so very much for your generous donation. My students will be so excited to see all of the new books added to the Spanish section of the library. I may even have to get a bigger shelf to hold all of them! I appreciate your generosity so much!”

Funded Sep 30, 2022In the past, the graphic novels in our library were stuck amongst the nonfiction books, where they technically belong because of their call numbers, but it just didn't make sense and it was difficult for students to find specific series or titles. Now, they have their own section on their own shelves.
My students were super excited to see the new shelving (and the new spot) for the graphic novels. They can find what they're looking for very easily and they're in a prominent area of the library (because graphic novels are so popular). It's great to see them independently find where they need to go without any help from me.
Thank you so much for donating to this project to allow me to make materials accessible for my students! It has been a game changer!”

Funded Dec 3, 2019The new large print books have been a real hit in the library! We created a display of them and students checked them out right away! They commented that they preferred the larger text and wanted us to get more of them.
These books really do help our struggling readers as well. They have more pages, so it feels like they are reading a longer book. Also, students feel as though they are reading quickly because there are fewer words on a page than a "regular" print book. Finally, the larger print helps students to track the words on the page more easily.
I think these books have been a wonderful addition to our collection and I would love to purchase more of them in the future! Thank you to the donors who helped make this possible! You make a difference!”

Funded Feb 14, 2019Thank you very much for funding my project! The new chairs not only look really sharp in the computer lab, but they are very comfortable and sturdy as well.
My students were super excited to see the new chairs and try them out. The ergonomic design makes it easy for them to get comfortable and do their work. The balls on the bottoms of the legs allow them to slide in and out easily and students can move around when they are collaborating.
Now that I have these chairs, I am hoping to eventually restructure the computer lab to become more of an innovation lab. This will allow students to bring their own devices and have flexible tables and areas to work on various collaborative and individual activities. Thank you again for helping to get this project off the ground!”

Funded Nov 17, 2017Thank you so much for your support of the Books on Bikes program. It will give our students and their families books to read at home during the summer months to help foster a love of reading and maintain the reading skills attained the previous school year.
The flags, vests, bells and first aid kit we received through Donors Choose are important for the safety of our riders as they travel on their routes throughout the summer. The cooler will keep freeze pops cool for our patrons and carry water for our riders. These are important components in making this program successful.
The Books on Bikes program can only thrive with the support of generous people like you, who understand the importance of literacy and community outreach. We appreciate your contribution to this important program and to the families in our community.”

Gadgets and Gizmos Galore: Making a Makerspace
Funded May 25, 2017This project has helped me to organize my makerspace materials so they are readily available to students when needed. We launched the makerspace in September and each week my students can't wait to get over there to build at the Lego table, make crafts, put together puzzles, and play games. It is wonderful to see them work together to solve problems, design projects, and just play.
When I first introduced the students to the space, there were lots of oohs and aahs. This made me excited to share it with them and to see how they utilize it. I was worried that some of the activities may only appeal to one age group, but students from kindergarten through 5th grade are actively engaged in all of them.
This week we will give parents an idea of some of the fun we will have in our makerspace with a Maker Night. Volunteers will run stations with crafts, coding, robotics, and more. I can't wait to see what they will do with our students. I am hoping that I can include many of those same activities in my makerspace during the school day.
Thank you for making this happen for Rockwell School. It has gotten off to a great start and I look forward to seeing our space grow in the years to come!”

Funded Jan 9, 2017Thank you again for your generous donation to this project. The students at Rockwell School will benefit greatly from your kindness. In this ever evolving world of technology, it is very difficult for schools with tight budgets to keep up with the changes and expectations for 21st century learners. Students are expected meet common core standards at all grade levels and the use of technology is a key component in meeting those standards.
As we build our classroom sets of chromebooks, we are giving our students more opportunities to make technology a part of their everyday lives. Students are drafting, editing and publishing their writing on computers; they are doing online research for social studies, science and language arts; they are reading books and practicing math skills online. With just one physical computer lab in the school for 280 students, having "mobile labs" that go right into the classroom allows more students access to the information and tools they need to become digitally literate. Also, many of our students' only exposure to technology is at school, so having regular access to it is very beneficial for them. Students who don't have devices or Internet at home can to do their work during the school day, and they aren't at a disadvantage because of their lack of access at home.
As you know, we can't always have everything we want or need, especially in schools. This is why people like you are so important and so appreciated. With your help, we are able to strive for the best for our students, and provide them with the tools and experiences necessary to help them achieve their academic potential.”
