  • "Shining Bright: Eclipse Glasses for Stellar Learning Experiences"

    Funded Feb 27, 2024

Thank you so much for donating to this project. I am very excited to enhance this once in a life time event for the students at my school. We are lucky enough to be in complete totality during the April 8th eclipse and have the perfect viewing spot from our playground area.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Harkins

  • Flexible Seating for Older Speech Students

    Funded Oct 12, 2023

I am writing to express my gratitude for your generous support of my recent Donors Choose project. Your contribution has had a profound impact on the learning environment in my speech therapy room, and I am thrilled to share the positive changes it has brought about.

Thanks to your kindness, we were able to address a crucial need for our older elementary students by enhancing our flexible seating area. Your donation has allowed for larger bean bag chairs and a small table, creating a space that not only accommodates their growing bodies but also fosters a warm and inviting atmosphere for therapeutic learning. The brightly colored rug and lamps, made possible by your support, have created a cozy ambiance that resonates with the students.

The students were SO happy when they first saw the new bean bag chairs, and have constantly wanted to use them since they arrived. The addition of larger bean bag chairs has further elevated their comfort and engagement during speech therapy sessions.

Once again, thank you for your generosity. Your contribution has made a positive impact in the lives of these students, fostering an inviting and effective space for their growth and development.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Harkins

  • Updated and High Interest Toys for Play Based Speech Therapy

    Funded Dec 20, 2023

Thank you so much for funding this project! My students will be so excited to come back from winter break and have new things to play with. It will be exciting to see all the language and fun they will have using these materials. I appreciate your help with providing new and interesting toys to use during therapy.”

  • Flexible Seating for Speech Therapy

    Funded May 20, 2023

Our new flexible seating area in speech therapy is a big hit with my students! They enjoy not having to sit at a table for part of their day. The scoop rockers are great for my students who need to "get the wiggles out" during their time with me. And others enjoy the soft round floor cushions.

The carpet is also a much appreciated addition to the room. When my students have free time, they like to lay on it and play games and do other activities.

The lamps are being enjoyed as well. It is nice to be able to turn off my overhead lights. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing, even other staff members have commented about the ambience they create.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to create such a wonderful classroom for my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Harkins

  • Binding Our Learning

    Funded May 9, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project! My students have loved having their own bound materials. They have been able to personalize the front of their booklets to really make each one unique! When my students realized that we would be able to have hands on materials again they were so very happy for things to "kind of go back to normal" after the craziness of last year. We just started our second grading cycle and the students made the covers to their second booklet of work. Thank you again!”

  • Using Apples for Speech Therapy

    Funded May 3, 2011

Thank you for funding my project. My students enjoyed learning how to use technology that was new to them at that time.

Since 2011, our district has continued to incorporate technology into my speech therapy session. We went from iTouches, to iPads, to Chromebooks and Boom Cards. Even with all the new and exciting technology available to students today they still enjoy playing board games, go fish, and completing puzzles.

Thank you again for starting my students out on the right track, showing them that technology can be used in almost ever aspect of their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Harkins

My students attend a Title 1 school, with the majority of them having a home language other than English. The majority of my students live in the neighborhood surrounding our school. All students on our campus receive free breakfast and lunch daily.
