Ukuleles for Fourth and Fifth Grade!
Funded Jan 11, 2022Thanks to your amazing donation, our fourth and fifth graders now have ukuleles! Their excitement was off the charts when they first saw them. We're diving into music fundamentals and teamwork with these instruments. The kids are already practicing chords and learning to play simple songs together.
Next year, they'll be composing their own songs. Your support has truly sparked a love for music in our classroom. We can't wait to see how their musical journey unfolds. Thank you for making this happen!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hankins-Wright
This classroom project was brought to life by A New York City Parent and 4 other donors.Percussion for General Music
Funded May 20, 2020Thank you so much for your donation! My students were so excited to use the new procession instruments in our classroom.
We use the instruments to improvise and compose music! We love to sing and play instruments in our classroom! My students are from pre-k through fifth grade, and every student has the opportunities to make music together. They are always thrilled to explore new sounds and musical ideas in a group!
Next year, we plan on continuing to grow our instrument inventory, and we will use percussion in or choral and orchestral ensembles!”

Personal Dry Erase Boards
Funded Sep 17, 2019Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. My students love having personal whiteboards and markers. It truly enhances their experience in general music. They were so excited when they found out they got to use dry erase boards in music.
We use the dry erase boards for a variety of activities. We practice our notation skills, compose, and create listening maps. My students' favorite activity is to play rhythm relay, which is when they hear somebody clap a rhythm pattern and they have to work together to decode and notate the pattern on their team's board. Additionally, because of the white boards, we are able to conserve paper and do our part to be mindful of the environment, which is important to my students and myself.
We are so appreciative of your generosity, and I thank you for assisting me in creating meaningful experiences for our young musicians.”

Tubano Drums for All!
Funded Sep 28, 2018Thank you so much for donating to our music classroom. My students are absolutely loving the materials, and they love using them to add accompaniment to our music. Even our youngest students are able to use them for steady beat activities.
My students were so excited to work with the drums! They were so appreciative, and they all wanted a chance to play the drums! The first day we used the drums, the students played a freeze dance activity and practiced instruments safety.
Our next step to use our drums for composing and cross-curricular activities. We truly appreciate your support!”

Mrs. Hankins-Wright
