  • Comfy Body, Engaged Mind

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Christmas for a teacher can come many times of the year, and that's when gracious donors like you decide to open your hearts and help classrooms!

My students love sitting on the floor at low tables, but it does get a little uncomfortable for them at times. These comfy seats are the perfect addition to our flexible seating arrangement! My students were very excited to have a back to their seating preference that allowed stability and comfort. This allows for my students to be more engaged in their task.

This project also provided me the opportunity to continue flexible seating in my classroom as our school is expanding next year and I will have more students in my classroom.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated by myself and my students. Thank you for thanking of us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hamby

  • STEM Ideas...NO Materials

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students love to perform STEM activities! These materials have and will provide my students opportunities to perform STEM activities to build critical thinking skills, problem solving and collaboration. Activities will also include team building and lessons with our robotics.

The students are thrilled to have new materials that can allow them to be creative and innovative as they design solutions to their task and problems. These supplies are long lasting and will be able to be used over and over this year and in the future.

Again, I appreciate your generosity to provide my students with unique and engaging opportunities!”

  • Enjoying Reading & Current Events Through Scholastic Magazines!

    Funded Mar 11, 2018

My students love Scholastic News articles! They love that they can read them online and watch the videos that go along with them. Scholastic News online also has an audio feature so my struggling readers can still enjoy the text as well!

In my classroom, we utilize Scholastic News for whole group conversation with specific focuses about nonfiction text. We also use the articles for small group and individual responses. There are so many features and support for learning through Scholastic News.

Thank you again for providing my students with an enriching and engaging activity to help build their reading skills and background knowledge in current events.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hamby

  • Learning With Robots!

    Funded Aug 22, 2017

My students couldn't wait to get their hands on the Sphero! They have schedules where certain days they are assigned to perform task with the Sphero and accessories. Some of these task include coding the Sphero to go through a maze or follow a line.

The engagement of the students is through the roof! They cannot wait to let their minds work together to compete the task and challenges at hand. Everyday I have students saying, "It's my day for robotics," as their little faces beam.

With all of the expected curriculum we have to provide students, the robotics are an exciting, engaging and rigorous task that provide opportunities that are not part of normal curriculum but definitely needed.

Thank you again for providing this unique opportunity for my students this year and future!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hamby

  • Robots Inspiring the Classroom

    Funded Aug 23, 2017

The students are over joyed to have our Sphero in the classroom! They are so excited to use their new coding skills to program a robot to do what they are asking it to do.

For the first few trials, students were able to just learn and explore without direction other than to create a task and follow through with it. Now students are beginning to use the "extras" such as the chariot and ramps to complete more rigorous task. Students have also been able to take Sphero, which they have name Codey, through mazes that I have created.

The possibilities are endless and my students are ecstatic to try to learn them all! Thank you again for helping my students have a unique opportunity inside the classroom.”

  • Active Seating for Active 3rd Graders

    Funded Apr 8, 2017

This is my first year using a flexible seating arrangement in my classroom. We just started our new school year four days ago, and I can already tell the positive impact it will have for my students. The stability balls and wobble chairs have allowed my very fidgety class to move while they are trying to stay focused and engaged.

The looks on my students AND their parents when they walked into Meet the Teacher night and saw the seating arrangement were priceless. I had many parents thanking me right then for helping their child, because they know they cannot sit in a chair all day. I definitely gave credit where credit was do, by stating where the funds came from for this seating arrangement. They too were amazed that so many would be willing to give to students they don't even know and are very grateful.

I will continue to write grants to keep this seating arrangement, I can see the benefit it will provide my students. Thank you again for your generous donation!”

  • Small Group Seating and Reading Nook

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

When my students walked in on Meet the Teacher night along with their parents they were amazed by the flexible seating arrangement. The crate seats add a colorful, cute seat away from their standard "desk" or table to do their work.

They LOVE sitting on the seats during independent work, but they also love that when they need a partner they can sit right next to them comfortably. The crate seats also allow for storage of materials to be kept under the seat part. This has eliminated some unwanted clutter in the room.

I plan to keep the flexible seating arrangement in my classroom, therefore I will continue to write grants for more seating opportunities and to replace items that may become damaged.

Thank you again for your wonderful and generous donation!”

  • No Technology in a Technology World

    Funded Dec 19, 2016

Once again I want to thank each one of you for your generous donation. Our school has about 200 students, I have 26 in my class. As a school we have one laptop cart that consist of 30 laptops that we have to share among the 13 classes. Technology is driving our world and our school cannot access it. By having another laptop in the room kids are able to grow and be creative. Our class currently utilizes about 10-15 sites that help them as readers, writers and mathematicians. They also are able to research questions and information, create published writing and PowerPoint.

The kids LOVE being on the laptops, they see it as an opportunity to grow in their own way and be creative. They are excited that they will have more opportunities to access technology with the laptop staying in our room.

Some of my students are low readers. The laptop allows them to listen to books they are more interested in but cannot read on their own. They love the fact that they can hear books that are at their maturity level even though it is not their reading level.

Words cannot express our appreciation, we hope you all consider helping our class again someday.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hamby

  • Flexible Seating, More Learning!

    Funded Jan 19, 2017

The students were so excited to see our new seating arrangements in the classroom! It is hard for kiddos to stay in one spot or even just having only a chair as a option. My class has always been able to sit on the floor and move but now they have more comfortable arrangements than the hard floor.

The kids think it's pretty cool that they have pillows at school. They say it feels more "homey" which is exactly the feel I want for the classroom.

These students and so many more will get to enjoy the flexible seating options in the classroom, which will create an atmosphere more conducive to learning for this generation of kids. I am going to continue to post new projects to keep enhancing the flexible seating arrangement and hopefully by next school year I will be ready to start the year completely ready.

Thank you again for your wonderful donation to our classroom, we are truly appreciative!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hamby

  • Comfort Seating for the Floor!

    Funded Jan 19, 2017

Thank you so much for your dedication to helping students be successful in the classroom. You would not believe the kids faces when they saw the new items they would be able to sit on.

Several students have already commented about how much more comfortable it is to sit on the floor either during independent work or mini-lessons. Several kiddos that use to lay across the floor while I was teaching now have a comfortable seat and a seat that let's them move a little, which they so need to stay an active listener.

I plan to implement more flexible seating into the classroom as other projects get funded. Hopefully, by next school year I will have everything needed to successfully start the school year as a completely flexible seated classroom.

Thank you again for your wonderful donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hamby
