Listening Center is Needed for ESOL Students!
Funded Jan 13, 2015Thank you so much for your generosity in funding this projector! This amazing Epson projector has allowed me to work with a prior Donor's Choose item that I was unable to use because I did not have this important piece of technology. I am now able to partner this projector with a document camera and show the entire class a piece of writing done by one of my students that has the power to show the entire class what it means to indent or use quotation marks. When the children see each other being able to accomplish”

A Document Camera Would Make Us Smile!
Funded Oct 21, 2014I just wanted to let all of you know how much my students and I are enjoying the document camera you helped to fund! The document camera allows me to project the image of whatever book I am reading onto the white board in the front of the room. The students enjoy being able to read the words either with me, or on their own after I place the book page under the camera. I especially like when they read to me and their classmates! We also have been able to project our writing for everyone to see. I use the students' actual writing pieces to do Writer's Workshop and teach mini-lessons based on a common error I am finding in my class. It makes the lesson I teach so much more meaningful when I can actually show them what the correction looks like when I use their writing. Of course, I also use the camera to show what outstanding writing looks like as well! To see the look of pride and confidence in the face of a seven year old who has their story or poem projected onto the white board for everyone to see is more than priceless. Thanks so much for helping to fund this amazing tool, we are all enjoying it immensely!”

Please Help Us Protect Our New iPads!
Funded Aug 22, 2014I am writing this letter to express my sincere gratitude for your donations in helping to purchase cases for my new iPads. When you teach second grade, things hit the floor all day long. Crayons, milk, papers, pencils, and anything that is basically not nailed down. The last thing I wanted hitting the floor were our new iPads! Thanks to all of you, this newly purchased technology will have some protection should it accidentally hit the floor. The cases are strong and protective, and will definitely be the difference between a broken iPad and a safe iPad.
The blue cases that we ordered are really nice because they each come with a stylus, and the children love using this with the iPad. The case itself has a bendable part that allows the iPad to stand up so the children do not have to hold it while they work. The stylus really makes them feel like, "big kids," when they use it. Most of them have never used a stylus nor did they know what it was. Their eyes got so big when they saw how to use it! They each could not wait until it was their turn to give it a try.
The peace of mind the cases give me allow me not to worry so much about what could happen to the iPads if the children aren't careful. Even when they are being careful, accidents certainly happen. I remember when I was in the third grade and I accidentally dropped my teacher's camera. I felt so bad, I cried and cried. I would never want one of my students to have a memory like that. I can still see my teacher's face all these years later, awful!! Once again, thank you so much for your donations, and I feel so much better with these protective cases around such valuable pieces of technology! Thanks so much!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Gates Foundation Back To School and 3 other donors. We Need An iPad Mini!
Funded Aug 20, 2014I wanted to write this letter to tell you what an amazing impact your donation has made in my classroom. With the purchase of the iPad, I am now able to place children on websites that can support their learning in ways I was not able to do before. An abundance of supportive applications for math and reading exist on the technology I now have in my classroom. My students are so excited to use this new technology. Everyday, they want to know when their turn is on the iPad. They thoroughly enjoy their time learning new material in a way that is exciting and fun for them. The children who need extra support in an area where they have a deficit don't see it as a problem when they get to use the iPad to boost their learning.
One of the best things about having the iPad is the research I can do when looking for a specific way to address learning disabilities in my classroom. I am able to find just the right application for the different learning issues I have in my class. Another wonderful part of having the iPad is not just supporting the children with disabilities, but also giving my on-level learners time to access their favorite educational sites as well. I also happen to be the second grade ESOL teacher which allows me to use the iPad to help my English Language learners.
In conclusion, I just wanted to say thank you again for your generosity. The happiness my students feel when it's their turn on the iPad is such a joy to see. Many of them have never used an iPad before, and their faces light up with the use of this new technology. To see them learning and enjoying themselves at the same time makes me feel like an accomplished teacher. That's what school should be about-learning, and having fun doing it! Thanks to all of you, I am able to give that to my students!”

Help to Keep My Second Graders Sharp!
Funded Jan 31, 2012I am writing this letter to express my gratitude for your exceptional generosity. Without people like you, necessary materials for classrooms like mine would be extremely difficult to provide. There are so many supplies that public schools no longer have the funds to provide to their classrooms that make such a difference in the day of a busy second grader. Your donations have provided my second grade writers (as I call them) a quicker, easier, and more efficient way to sharpen their pencils and get back to work. Since this experience, I have a renewed confidence in the people who do believe in public education and care about the future of our children. You are part of this group of people, and it is a noble deed to give to those in need. My students and I are truly grateful for your donations, and we will be using our electric pencil sharpeners for months to come! Once again, thank you so very much!
