  • Super Second Graders Need an iPad!!

    Funded Apr 9, 2016

    Dear Mr. Lyons,

I wanted to write this letter to tell you what an amazing impact your donation has made in my classroom. With the purchase of the iPad, I am now able to place children on websites that can support their learning in ways I was not able to do before. An abundance of supportive applications for math and reading exist on the technology I now have in my classroom. My students are so excited to use this new technology. Everyday, they want to know when their turn is on the iPad. They thoroughly enjoy their time learning new material in a way that is exciting and fun for them. The children who need extra support in an area where they have a deficit don't see it as a problem when they get to use the iPad to boost their learning.

One of the best things about having the iPad is the research I can do when looking for a specific way to address learning disabilities in my classroom. I am able to find just the right application for the different learning issues I have in my class. Another wonderful part of having the iPad is not just supporting the children with disabilities, but also giving my on-level learners time to access their favorite educational sites as well.

In conclusion, I just wanted to say thank you again for your generosity. The happiness my students feel when it's their turn on the iPad is such a joy to see. Many of them have never used an iPad before, and their faces light up with the use of this new technology. To see them learning and enjoying themselves at the same time makes me feel like an accomplished teacher. That's what school should be about-learning, and having fun doing it! Thanks to all of you, I am able to give that to my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Haer

  • Chair Book Bags Will Help Us to Continue Our Reading!

    Funded Sep 2, 2015

I wanted to write this letter to tell you how grateful I am for the chair bags you funded for my classroom! Having these chair bags not only gives the students a place to put their independent books, it also gives them a little extra space to put their personal belongings in. They very much enjoy having their own bags on the backs of their chairs with their own names on the bag. I cannot express to you how lucky I am, and the students in my classroom are, to have a wonderful person like you to help us in so many ways! You are truly a blessing, and I wanted to say thank you so much for these amazing chair bags! I will continue to use these for years to come! Thanks Amanda, for EVERYTHING, you do for me and my students! You are an amazing person, and I do not know what I would do without you!!!”

  • We Really Need a Projector!!

    Funded Dec 22, 2014

Thank you so much for donating to help me get a new projector for my classroom! When I pair this with the document camera earlier funded through Donor's Choose, my students can see their work up on the screen and together we can work on a certain skill to improve their writing, math, or reading. This projector has enabled me to show my students the pictures of a book that were too small to see when we sat together on the carpet to hear a story to read about a certain topic. I am excited to see what else I can do with this projector in the future. There are many options I have yet to discover! Thanks so much for your generosity in helping my second graders be able to SEE their work on the BIG screen!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Haer

My name is Mrs. Patricia Haer and I teach third grade for the School District of Philadelphia. I have been teaching third grade for many years now, but I used to teach 7th and 8th grade. All of the children in my class receive free breakfast and free or reduced lunches. My philosophy in teaching is to treat my students the way I want my own children treated in their classrooms. I am a very concerned teacher with not only their academics in mind, but their social and emotional well being is important to me. Switching from 7th and 8th grade students to the third grade was a tremendous change for me. I have been working hard to provide my students with everything they need to be successful in the classroom. Even little things like pencils, erasers, and paper have had to be purchased for my children. I love teaching the little ones, and want very much to help them learn everything they need to feel proud!
