  • STEM Learning for Future Scientists and Mathematicians!

    Funded Jul 3, 2017

Thank you very much for all the wonderful materials for us to be able to solve problems in our S.T.E.M. class! The impact these materials are having is beyond words! My students are planning, using cooperation, creating solutions to the different problems or challenges they face. In these photos, the children were given a task to build a structure using only mini marshmallows and toothpicks. They were cooperating with the each other in a way that adults need to do in the work place. The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematical practices are being implemented through challenges and the students are exhibiting the skills needed to be successful. With these materials, my students are going to be exposed to challenges that require skills needed in the future. Thank you so much for helping me to give my students the opportunity to have a S.T.E.M class! They absolutely love it!”

  • We Need A Rack and Hanging Bags for Books/CD's!

    Funded May 5, 2017

Thank you again for this amazing donation that has made such a difference in the way my students are now listening to cd's while they read the book at the same time. Before this amazing rack and hanging bags, all the books/cd's were stacked in crates, and the students could not see all the different fiction and non-fiction books/cd's that were available to them. The crates sat on the floor where often times the materials inside would get dirty. When these amazing resources were purchased for my classroom, the children finally could easily slide the hanging bags along the rods of the rack and take their time while they decide what they want to hear. The students even organized the rack according to a fiction/non-fiction area. They are so proud of their Listening Center, and can't wait for their chance to go "shopping!" Thank you so much for this amazing resource, and it truly has made an amazing difference of organization in our classroom!!”

  • Second Graders Need Help Building Fluency and Word Recognition Skills

    Funded Mar 23, 2017

I just wanted to write about the impact these wonderful supplies and tools have had on my students building their fluency and word recognition skills. My students absolutely love the cd's and books that go along so much they actually cheer when it is their turn at the listening center. Being able to see the words being read to a second grader is so important because it helps them recognize those words when they are reading different material. Being able to transfer their knowledge of word recognition to other types of reading is a skill that takes a 7-8 year old time to manage. With the books and cd's, there are so many choices for them to listen to. Each time they listen to a new cd and have the book read to them, they are picking up new vocabulary. The ultimate goal is for my students to transfer their learning of new words into their writing and speaking. These books and cd's are making a wonderful impact on my students' learning! I cannot than all of you enough!”

  • Heads Up for Headphones and CD Players!

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

I just wanted to thank you again for donating to this project! Having these individual cd players for the Listening Center in my classroom has made a world of difference! Each day, depending upon whose turn it is, looks forward to selecting their own book with cd. The overwhelming joy the students show when they know it is their turn at the Listening Center is something that doesn't get old. Thanks to you, the children enjoy being read to, and can hear the same story over and over again if they choose to do so. Each group gets about 20-25 minutes at the Listening Center, and not one minute of it is wasted!

Many times I will be working with another group, and all of a sudden I can hear one of my students at the listening center reading or singing along with the story they are listening to! It can be quite funny, especially if the student talking or singing doesn't realize they are the only one in the classroom making noise. That is an example of how lost the kids get into the story they are listening to. Each of them have their favorite, but they all like to listen to as many stories as time permits. Some are even willing to give up their recess to stay in and listen to stories with the cd players. The impact is seen by me everyday my students smile when they hear it is their turn to use the cd players and get lost in a book! Thank you so much for providing these cd players! They are used everyday, and I know they will continue to be used for many months to come!”

  • Wanted: iPad Mini for An Awesome Group of Second Graders!

    Funded Dec 21, 2016

I wanted to write this letter to tell you what an amazing impact your donation has made in my classroom. With the purchase of the iPad Mini, I am now able to place children on websites that can support their learning in ways I was not able to do before. An abundance of supportive applications for math and reading exist on the technology I now have in my classroom. My students are so excited to use this new technology. Everyday, they want to know when their turn is on the iPad Mini. They thoroughly enjoy their time learning new material in a way that is exciting and fun for them. The children who need extra support in an area where they have a deficit don't see it as a problem when they get to use the iPad to boost their learning.

One of the best things about having the iPad Mini is the research I can do when looking for a specific way to address learning disabilities in my classroom. I am able to find just the right application for the different learning issues I have in my class. Another wonderful part of having the iPad Mini is not just supporting the children with disabilities, but also giving my on-level learners time to access their favorite educational sites as well.

In conclusion, I just wanted to say thank you again for your generosity. The happiness my students feel when it's their turn on the iPad is such a joy to see. Many of them have never used an iPad before, and their faces light up with the use of this new technology. To see them learning and enjoying themselves at the same time makes me feel like an accomplished teacher. That's what school should be about-learning, and having fun doing it!”

  • We Need Play Doh and Alphabet Stampers for Word Work!

    Funded Jun 24, 2016

    Dear Mr. Lyons,

My students and I just want to let you know how we are using the amazing materials you donated to our classroom! Using these materials allows my tactile learners to touch and feel the words and letters of their Sight Words and Spelling Words. Not all children learn the same. It is important to me to support all my students in the way they learn. Thanks to you, Mr. Lyons, even the children who learn in a different way, are able to express themselves and create words and sentences the same way as the rest of their classmates. The children were so happy to see their new materials! Everyone will get a chance to use the stampers and play-doh because the eruption of applause the kids saw what was in the box was amazing! Everyone wants to use the stampers and play-doh to express themselves as learners. Having resources like the ones you have donated to my classroom make such a difference in my student's daily Word Work. Thanks so much for caring about my students!! They are well aware of you and all you do for them, as am I!! Thanks for being such an amazing part of their day!”

My name is Mrs. Patricia Haer and I teach third grade for the School District of Philadelphia. I have been teaching third grade for many years now, but I used to teach 7th and 8th grade. All of the children in my class receive free breakfast and free or reduced lunches. My philosophy in teaching is to treat my students the way I want my own children treated in their classrooms. I am a very concerned teacher with not only their academics in mind, but their social and emotional well being is important to me. Switching from 7th and 8th grade students to the third grade was a tremendous change for me. I have been working hard to provide my students with everything they need to be successful in the classroom. Even little things like pencils, erasers, and paper have had to be purchased for my children. I love teaching the little ones, and want very much to help them learn everything they need to feel proud!
