Mom and Dad, Let's Engage in Reading!

    I can't thank you enough for your generosity.  Your contribution to our Kindergarten classroom has made it possible for my students to bring the LOVE of reading from our classroom to their homes. 

    My students were more than happy to see the variety of books and accompanying props that we got, but when they found out that they were going to be able to take them home to read with their parents they were ecstatic!  My students look forward to choosing a new literacy kit to take home every Tuesday.  Our "Mom and Dad, Lets Engage in Reading!" Literacy Kit Program has become a topic of conversation between my young kindergarten students.  My students talk about the book they have taken home to share with their parents; the book they would like to take home; how they used the props; who they read with or to; what they liked about the story; and they have also started recommending books to other students.

    In addition to reading the books and acting out the stories using the props my students also write a sentence or more that tells what they like about the book, who their favorite characters were, how they used the props, or who helped them use the literacy kit.  They share their writing and drawings with the class which adds to the excitement they already show for reading.  Parents have also expressed their gratitude for the literacy kits.  One mom said she liked how more engaged her child is in the reading process and also looks forward to the new literacy kit her child will bring home.

    Once again thank you for helping me bring the LOVE of reading to my kindergarten students and establishing a reading routine.  Most importantly thank you for making reading a fun activity that children can engage in with their moms and dads.
