Light it Up: Paper Circuits
Funded Oct 21, 2022Thank you so much for funding the "Light it Up: Paper Circuits" project. The purchase of LED lights, copper tape and batteries have allowed me the opportunity to deliver hands on STEM activities to engage students into the world of circuitry. Although circuitry may seem like an abstract concept to students from Kindergarten to Fifth grade, these materials have brought to life concepts such as electricity, what is a conductor and insulator, and open and close circuits. They have gained valuable vocabulary words through these activities as well.
The students love to work on these STEM activities and will continue their knowledge of circuits through projects throughout the year!
Thank you again for supporting my classroom with these resources and being a part of growing and inspiring young minds!”

iPads Needed for Computer Science Class
Funded Jan 28, 2022Thank you for supporting my classroom with IPads! They have been used to teach computer science concepts such as algorithms, debugging, loops and computational thinking like decomposition and finding patterns. Although some of these concepts may be abstract, the IPads have been used to bring these ideas into the concrete.
Watching the students have an IPad in their hands and actively engaged in computer science has been exciting and rewarding. There are many applications that they have worked with such as Scratch Jr, Sphero Edu, Blockly and SamLabs to name a few. Paired with a robotic device, the students have really enjoyed working and learning.
In particular, some of my students with disabilities have benefitted tremendously from these IPads. Their confidence level has risen as they access complex concepts that otherwise would be difficult for them in a traditional lesson. These IPads have opened up opportunities for them to enjoy computer science and other 21st Century Skills such as creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 6 other donors.Moving from Legos to 3D Printing!
Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you SO much for this donation! Our team is studying problems astronauts face in space and we realized that a 3D printer is helpful on a spacecraft in case they need to make a tool that is necessary to fix a problem.
The new product helps us to make things that an astronaut may need which allows the students feel close to their project!
The members of our research team has especially loved this new technology because they can practice making things that a real astronaut may need to make like a specialized tool that they may not have brought from earth!
Thanks!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Glus
