  • Cereal and Breakfast Bars for a Smart Start

    Funded May 5, 2023

Thank you for giving my students a great start to their day! It is amazing what a breakfast bar or bowl of cereal can do for a child's well-being. In the spring, my children knew that every day they would not be hungry when they came to school. Now, in the fall, I received the last package of cereal that was backordered. It came at the perfect time to help me begin to feed my new students. It is so comforting to have that breakfast bar at the back of the room. I am so grateful to you for your generosity and your kindness. Thank you.

I appreciate all you have donated to my classroom. I am hoping to create another grant request for this school year to continue having breakfast foods for my children. I truly saw the benefit of this grant. I do not assume anything. I just wanted to let you know how beneficial your donation has been. I appreciate everything you have done to help me help my children. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gauci

  • Getting Organized With Binders, Folders, and Sharpies

    Funded May 12, 2023

Thank you so much for your generosity! It was so wonderful to start the year off with organization, binders, and sharpies. Having the right tools for the job makes all the difference to understanding the work at hand. My students are learning to open and close binders. They are learning about permanent markers and the beauty of writing on slick paper. We will be starting our poetry folders next week. Each child has a couple of folders, one for writing and one for reading poems. They are so organized. This year, they will be able to having everything in their hands when they need it.

Thank you for helping me teach organization, too. Students learn what they are taught. This carry-over will help them later in life, too. You have made this happen. Thank you!”

  • Managing 3-D Art Projects With Flexibility

    Funded Feb 7, 2023

Thank you so much for this incredible art drying rack. It holds three-dimensional projects and allows my students to return to the same project to add more. They are thinking and creating and building. They are not limited to a two-dimensional piece of paper. Having this art rack has allowed them to use their cognitive thinking skills and enhance what they have made to make it even better. They are learning to "build a better mousetrap". Having a place to store our work while it dries helps with any accidentally drops, too.

We are so grateful to have this art drying rack for drying and for storage while we build and create. Thank you for making this happen. My students this year and in the years to come are benefitting from your kindness.”

  • Books to Inspire

    Funded Jan 17, 2023

Thank you for helping me to inspire my children to do more. They are always working hard to learn. These books helped to inspire them to create and invent. The stories these children and adults tell of trying and making mistakes helps my students to realize that it is okay to make mistakes. It helps them to realize that it is our intention to do well for others that helps the world. And through our trials, we will find a way to invent that instrument that will help a doctor, or create a painting that inspires others to share, or bake that biscuit that cures gingivitis or some other disease. Whatever the invention, the inspiration started here in this classroom because of you. Thank you for helping me to inspire my students with these wonderful books and stories.”

  • Cultural Diversity - Celebrating Others

    Funded Jan 17, 2023

Thank you for your kindness and your help in teaching my students about other cultures. They have had so much fun learning about the Zodiac signs and the attributes of animals. How much is their personality really like their zodiac symbol? We are learning about characteristics, adjectives, and personalities. Our vocabulary is increasing.

Sometimes, we worry so much about ourselves and our own situation, rightfully so, that we are unable to see others who may be having a difficult time or worrying about potential danger. Especially at this time in history, our Chinese neighbors have been hurt, injured, ridiculed, and insulted. Teaching my students about the history of the Chinese culture has helped them to realize how similar these children are to themselves. My students have begun to learn empathy. Hearing about other children and their challenges helps my students begin to see beyond themselves. They are learning how to help others in small ways and big ways. The red knots, the Chinese lanterns, and the books have all helped to bring home the new information. The rabbits remind my students of the current Chinese year and how we are all alike. We are all learning so much. Thank you for giving my students these opportunities.”

  • Breakfast and Snacks

    Funded Dec 28, 2022

Thank you for your kindness and generosity. My students and I are so grateful for all that you have given us. Having breakfast foods and snacks available to my students helps to ease their minds of worry. Knowing they will have food when they come to class makes them feel more comfortable coming to school and keeps them ready to learn.

Cereals are the most desired meal. I thought it would be the breakfast bars, which they also love. I am learning that the children truly know what their bodies need, even if they don't realize it. They reach for the Cheerios and Rice Krispies first. They ask for milk to go with it. I feel blessed to be able to give them these meals and snacks whenever they need them. I have been amazed at how much second graders eat. But then, I am realizing more and more each day how much they are in need. Thank you for helping me to feed my children and prepare their minds for learning. Thank you for these breakfast foods and snacks.”

  • Colored Ink For Vowels, Consonants And Word Walls

    Funded Dec 15, 2022

Colored ink for vowels and consonant recognition has been wonderful for my students. Having colored ink has also helped me to differentiate pictures and clarify visuals for my students. Black and white may be fine for reading and literature, but when learning to read and write, vowels carry many sounds. They are difficult to learn and decipher in many different words. Accentuating the vowels by representing them in a different color, red, from the consonants, blue, has been helping my student decode. The letter "A" has 3 sounds, and a fourth sound as it represents a word. But when found in words like car and farther, students must learn and memorize the words.

Thank you for getting me this colored ink and for helping me with the color coding of words. These colors are helping my students to decode as they learn to read and write.

    Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gauci

  • Basic Supplies - Odds And Ends

    Funded Dec 8, 2022

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. These classroom basics have helped to make our supplies last a little bit longer. Paper plates are great for story telling and for paint. They help us for sharing supplies, too.

The Expo markers are wonderful for our whiteboard phonics lessons. The flair pens are colorful and help to make teaching writing so much more exciting.

We use the post-it notes every day! We use them during our guided reading and during our math graphing lessons. There are so many uses for these post-it notes!

Basic supplies are always needed in our classroom and I am so grateful that you have helped by contributing to our classroom supplies. My students do not need to worry about having materials to write, read, and learn.

    Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gauci

  • Show Me the Money

    Funded Dec 6, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. My students have been learning about money and adding double digit numbers. We have been exchanging money for $5 bills and $10 bills. They LOVE playing with the dollar bills and pretending to "go to the bank". We refurbished a cardboard box to represent the bank, with an automatic teller machine. They ask the bank to change their ones for tens and twenties. Then, they take their money and buy things at our make shift store. They are learning so much!

We are using the puzzles to add coins and calculate the cost of items while having fun with puzzles. These items have been amazing! My students are learning so much math and finances because of your generosity. Thank you for helping me teach my students about finances and money.”

  • Getting Paper Off The Ground: Wall-Racks For Large Colorful Paper

    Funded Nov 6, 2022

Thank you so much for these wonderful racks. They will help us get our large rolls of butcher paper off the ground. The shop we ordered these from was back ordered for 4-6 weeks, so it took a bit longer for us to receive the mounts. And our maintenance department has had their hands full. A number of issues has kept them busy with things to take care of, including a power outage that shut down our school for an additional two days. So the maintenance department has not had the opportunity to mount our racks yet. But we are in the list. We are being patient. I had hoped to take pictures of the racks mounted on the wall. In the meantime, we are utilizing the paper in fun ways. Teachers are decorating their walls and doors and making our school inviting and educational. Thank you for supporting us.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gauci

My kindergartners are fun-loving and energetic! They come to school excited and ready to learn new things. Over 90% of my students come from low-income households. Many of them meet the definition of homeless; some share apartments or live in shelters. These families work essential jobs to keep food on their table and our tables. Just like everyone else, my students want to grow up and become doctors and firemen and architects (think "Legos"). They want to become computer engineers. They have dreams and ambition. Thank you for helping my kids make their dreams come true with your donations. Thank you for supporting my kids by supporting my grant requests. Together, we can make a huge difference in the lives of these children.
