  • X Marks The "Spot" - Books

    Funded Jun 30, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity. Having these books will help my kids see that they are not alone in feeling the way they do right now. This is a crazy time. Sheltering in place has confused a lot of my kids. They want to go to school. They want to play with friends. They are angry that they have to stay home. They are happy to sleep in and play at home. So many emotions are flowing through their bodies. And they may not understand why.

I have read and recorded the stories that I felt were pertinent right now to be shared with families via email. Families will be able listen to the stories as needed and discuss them with their kids.

In the fall, I will be able to read and talk to my students about how they are feeling with all of these events in our lives. Students will learn that other kids are feeling the same way they are feeling. Even adults are feeling these emotions, and it is okay. We will be okay. Thank you for helping me to connect with my students on a social and emotional level.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gauci

  • Teacher Helping Students and Teachers

    Funded Jun 3, 2020

Thank you for the wonderful resources to stay connected to my students. They love receiving letters and papers in the mail. These letters are address to them and that makes them feel so special. They are excited to see what I have sent them. Most of them attempt to read the cards by themselves. Others are too excited to find out what the letter says, and they get help from their families. Then, everyone know what their teacher has sent.

When the fat envelopes come in the mail, my kids know that there is something new to learn! They are still excited to receive mail. They want to learn and draw and figure out puzzles. And they are always happy to be thought of.

Thank you for helping me continue to teach my students over the summer.”

  • Science In A Bottle

    Funded Jun 30, 2020

Thank you for the wonderful test tubes! It was so exciting to deliver our science kits plus a little extra to each of my students. I was able to share a play-dough recipe with my kids and that odd ingredient to make it soft. I put 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar into each test tube so the kids could make this play-dough at home. I was able to use the test tube rack to hold all the bottles while I measured one and a half teaspoons of baking soda into each tube. This allowed them to do the volcano experiment that we did online and to learn the difference between acids and bases.

I am looking forward to sending home more test tubes filled with ingredients that will enable my students to do more fun science experiments at home this summer. Thank you for making this possible.”

  • Books In Their Hands and Language In Their Heads

    Funded May 27, 2020

Thank you for making a huge impact on my kids and my classroom. These books are perfect for my students. These books have been great stories to read to my kids to teach them lessons. We have learned about endangered animals, colors, perseverance, bravery and more. My students love to listen to stories that are predictable and unpredictable. They are learning to answer the CROWD questions, and these books help with their cognitive skills.

CROWD Questions = (C) Complete the sentence "Brown Bear, What do you ____?"; (R) Recall events in the story; (O) Open-Ended questions; (W) Who, What, When, Where questions; (D) Distance questions (relate to your own life). I have been using these stories to work on the CROWD questions with my students to help with comprehension, as well as putting themselves into the stories.

Thank you for adding these books to my classroom library.”

  • Truth or Myth? Science Kits for Each Student

    Funded Jun 23, 2020

Thank you for the amazing gift of science for my students. I drove to their homes and dropped off the Truth or Myth Science Kits. They were so happy to see me and wondered what what in the purple box. When I told them about the kits, they squealed and smiled and thanked me. They were thrilled. Some asked their parents if they could open the box right then.

I also dropped off a little extra, a couple of additional science projects with ingredients and directions to add to their kits. They loved it! And with the test tubes from another grant, I will be able to continue to send home more ingredients so that they can continue to work on their science experiments at home.

Thank you for making it possible to continue educating my students over the summer. They are so excited to have these fun projects to do, and they are learning at the same time.”

  • Get a (Pencil) Grip!

    Funded Jun 10, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation! I have given these PenAgain pens to my students to help them continue to use the three finger tripod grip when writing this summer. My new kindergarten students will also be receiving these PenAgain pens!

These PenAgain pens are going to help my students learn how to hold a pencil with the tripod grip. Your gift is helping my students to get off to a great start with a proper pencil grip that eases the stress of writing, physically and mentally. When children get new toys, they want to play with them again and again. I hope to have them writing again and again. So far, they love their PenAgains!

Thank you for letting me share the love of writing with past and present students.”

  • Laptop for Reliable Distance Learning

    Funded May 27, 2020

Thank you so much for this gift! Having compatible technology to work with my students has been incredible. I am able to correctly explain to the parents and children what their screen looks like, and where to find an icon or how to annotate. The parents have been so impressed with my understanding and my explanations, because I can see what they see. I have been able to clearly explain what they need to do to help their child access our class and their assignments. Compatibility has made an incredible difference in teaching remotely.

My students have been able to see what I see with a shared screen. They can see me walk through a lesson and explain an assignment clearly and understandably.

In addition, my students have been able to "use the shared screen" like a chalkboard, and write on the same screen with me. They are writing and adding and subtracting. They are showing their work and sharing it with their classmates. They are so excited to "write on the teacher's computer screen." Another lesson to teach will be shared screen etiquette. They ALL want to write and answer the questions.

Sharing the same technology with my students has been an incredible gift. It has helped with the communication barrier, both language and technology. Your generosity has bridged the beginning stages of technology. Thank you for giving me a compatible unit to work with my students and their families during distance learning.”

  • Caught the Science Bug!

    Funded Jun 2, 2020

Thank you for the supplies for our experiments! My students and I meet on Zoom and we perform our science experiments together. I do the experiment multiple times for them, and many of them follow along. Their excitement for science is catching. They ooo and aaah with every project we try. We have ALL caught the science bug!

When my students came to school to pick up their certificates and end of the year gifts, they also received slime and/or play dough! I wanted to share it with them. Making those things together online was so much fun! Some kids weren't able to make it because it involved using the stove. Others made only one version of slime. They got to experience the second slime from the slime that I made with them online. They loved to feel the different textures.

I can't wait to share another experiment with them online, and eventually, in class with them in the fall. Thank you for your generosity.”

  • We Are Superkids!

    Funded May 27, 2020

Thank you so much for rewarding my Superkids with all these wonderful gifts and keepsakes! My students received the Portfolio, their Superhero Capes and Masks, and a bag full of goodies during the last week of "school," picking them up from our school, keeping a 6-foot distance, of course.

They were so excited to receive them! The Portfolios were almost half their size! They wanted to dig in and look into the portfolio to see their past work and into the bag to find their gift books and prizes. A few students put on their Superhero Capes and Masks and I saw them "flying" home with their families. One student asked, "for me?" He was so surprised. My kids were so thrilled!

Other teachers saw my portfolios and loved them! I explained that they are good for the next 7 years, so their future students would be able to save work from their classes forever, too. These teachers may be writing a grant to get portfolios for the rest of their students!

Thank you for making this happen. Thank you for helping me to make my students happy and excited about school. Thank you for the Portfolios, Superhero Capes and Masks and all the fun prizes for my students!”

  • Color Our World

    Funded Oct 24, 2019

Thank you so much for all of your generosity. My students have been filling the classroom with colors! We have been using the art paper to make 3-Dimensional pumpkins and trees. We are decorating them with stars and gems and glitter. The paint has been amazing! It not only adds color and flair to projects, it also teaching the kids about science, blending colors and the color wheel. They are discovering new colors on the color wheel... and new names for those colors: chartreuse, magenta, orchid, and more.

When my students write in their journals, they also draw with colored pencils and label their pictures. They are so happy to color faces and people the same color as their skin. The multicultural crayons and pencils have been a treasure in our classroom! Children are realizing that even though they are the same nationality or come from the same family (aunts/uncles), they can still be different colors. They are realizing that the color of their skin is unique to them. Some kids have blended the multicultural color crayons on the paper, making the exact color of their skin. They are proud of their heritage, color and their work.

Having colored paper is such an uplifting experience in the classroom. Students choose to do their work on colored paper that is their favorite... and they are choosing their friend's favorite colors and making things for them. They are sharing and talking about similarities and differences. It is so amazing to hear all the language that has been generated because of all of you COLORING OUR WORLD. Thank you!”

My kindergartners are fun-loving and energetic! They come to school excited and ready to learn new things. Over 90% of my students come from low-income households. Many of them meet the definition of homeless; some share apartments or live in shelters. These families work essential jobs to keep food on their table and our tables. Just like everyone else, my students want to grow up and become doctors and firemen and architects (think "Legos"). They want to become computer engineers. They have dreams and ambition. Thank you for helping my kids make their dreams come true with your donations. Thank you for supporting my kids by supporting my grant requests. Together, we can make a huge difference in the lives of these children.
