  • Literacy and Math Are Life Skills!

    Funded May 28, 2021

Thank you for helping me provide students with books that motivate them to apply mathematical knowledge to real life situations. The books were able to use comprehension strategies and skills as we read the books you funded. By reading Lawn boy the students learned economical terms along with mathematical concepts that engaged them in problem solving in a highly motivating way.

Also by reading Lemonade War they applied addition and subtraction skills to figure out how much money the children were earning. They were able to read and make connections to the text they read along with the mathematical problem solving.

Once again thank you for your generosity.”

  • Constructive Conversation Benches

    Funded Oct 22, 2019

I have attempted to motivate all my students in completing their assignments in cooperative groupings. Students can take a break from just sitting in their chair. Just because they are older doesn't mean that they cannot benefit from a change of seating.

Having these convert a benches has offered my students unconventional seating. They are all excited to sit and work on these benches. The benches offer to ways of working, since they can just sit or convert it to a table to put their iPads or work on top of. I have also utilized them as compensation for finishing their work. I have had students alternate so that everyone can get a turn to sit on the benches.”

  • Researching for STEAM!

    Funded Nov 16, 2019

    Thank you for your generosity.

My students have 5 year old IPads. On their iPads students cannot view certain documents or videos. Having this chrome book has helped them view a variety of videos. They can watch the videos clearly and take notes on paper or electronically.

They use the iPads and the chrome book in their cooperative groups. They are able to view and share information. The students can also research a wider collection of facts, sites and videos in all areas. The students have learned that having technology is important in the 21st century.”

  • Robot Coding During STEAM!

    Funded Apr 8, 2019

Thank you for your donation. Our class has gained 3 robots that they can program. The students have been engaged in creating ingenious stories that they can tell by creating a unique setting that the robot can navigate through.

The benefit is that students use their imagination and creativity to write fictional stories and settings so that the robot can do tricks in like spin, or jump or go fast or slow.

The students are also learning to cooperate in small groups in order to create these stories and program the robots. In the pictures I included you can see how students had one robot rob a Chase bank and spiderman chases him in order for justice to be served.

The students are engaged and intrigued.”

  • Reporting as Scientists and Mathematicians

    Funded Dec 10, 2018

    Thank you for your donation.

As a result of having microphones students are able to record clearly when they are making I Movies or using other applications to record their findings. Before we had microphones students were struggling because their recordings were not clear and you can hear all the background noise. The students are proud as they share their recordings.

A color printer has enhanced students' STEAM publishing because it has allowed students to increase performance and display their work with color. They are motivated to put their best effort in research and creating their best colorful projects. They are honored when they share their reports orally and or when their work is displayed on the bulletin boards.

Thus, thank you for allowing me to extend and expand my students STEAM lessons that foster 21st century skills.”

  • Coding and Science Researching

    Funded Nov 5, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation. Having an updated mini IPad has helped me extend my Steam Lessons. The mini IPAD provides updated applications to extend my students' technological skills development that will prepare them for the 21st century.

For example, the students research information on our life science unit about animals. They individually create their own Imovie projects in their air IPAD, in which they insert images and record the facts that they have learned about how animals' internal and external structures help them adapt to their environment. Then students can air drop their movies to the new mini IPAD. Next they can collectively edit and combine their Imovies to create an improved Imovie project to present to the class.

The students are also able to extend our science lab lessons by using Google slides to create a collective group presentation in their own IPAD an then airdrop to the new IPAD to create a creative collective Google slide presentation to present to class. This gives them the opportunity to also add graphs and data that we utilize in science lessons.

Thus, thank you for allowing me to extend and expand my students STEAM lessons that foster 21st century skills.”

  • Throw, Hit, Catch and Repeat While Playing Softball

    Funded Dec 26, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation that allowed my class to have softball equipment. They feel very fortunate to be able to play a sport that is not available for the school. Every year 5th graders play a softball game against teachers, but the students do not have the experience or the practice to compete fairly. My students have expressed that they feel very lucky and are motivated to learn the basics. We have practiced throwing and catching with the mitts. I have taught them to hit of the tee as a preparation to hitting of a pitch.

With the right equipment I have been able to meet the physical education standards: 1.15 Strike a gently tossed ball with a bat, using a side orientation, 1.6 Throw and catch an object with a partner while both partners are moving, 5.5 Include others in physical activities and respect individual differences in skill and motivation, and 1.9 Catch a fly ball above the head, below the waist, and away from the body.

Therefore, the students are engaged in learning these motor skills while learning a new sport. I am grateful because most of them do not get the opportunity to play any sport.”

  • A Reader's Cozy Corner

    Funded Oct 29, 2018

From the moment my students saw the rug, benches and stools available in our new library, they voluntarily began to sit and read. Their faces lit up with enthusiasm and yearning to show me how much they needed and appreciated their new cozy reading corner.

This space has become a reading sanctuary for students. During Independent Work Time I no longer hear students complaining about reading, instead they cheer and read by themselves or with partners.

In addition, when I am reading aloud a chapter book the students' have the liberty of going to the library and getting comfortable.

Thanks to your donations our new library has changed my students' perspective about reading. This has increased their appreciation of reading, listening to books and their reading comprehension.”

  • Fostering Future Engineers Through 3D Models!

    Funded May 8, 2018

As part of my science curriculum I implement the next generation science standards. One standard is making models that represent concepts to help students learn. I also utilize engineering design process to help students create, build models for challenges. The 3 d printer has had a create impact because students have been able to use technology to create 3d models that are tangible. They have been more excited, engaged and willing to participate in the process because they have a model to show and describe to peers and take home. It has increased their confidence as scientists and future engineers.

I have noticed that girls and some of my struggling students have been particularly interested and invested in using the 3d printer. It has increased their confidence and academic performance in science.”

  • 21st Century Storytelling Through Video Diaries

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Our school integrates technology in many academic subjects because each student in our school has an IPAD. Using technology has improved my students' ability to research science, social studies and math concepts in order to expand their ideas. We have learned to create I movies that embody their learning in a visual media.

The 360 camera has allowed the students to record videos and narrated them with greater ease. The students can just hold camera still without worrying about zooming in, or moving angles to record all their surroundings. The camera does all this on its own and when we share their videos they love manipulating the video to see all the angles to analyze and look for new details.

My GATE and technologically advanced students have been challenged to create video journals and have embraced this advancement. Even my shy students have benefited because they can record their ideas without worrying of looking into camera or scrutiny of peers' gazes.”

My students are highly motivated to learn. Despite the language barrier my students have great parental support. They complete homework and family projects. My students show an elevated amount of enthusiasm when we use technology as a resource. Nineteen of my students are English Language Learners. I have 10 students with IEPs. My students learn and retain language from experiences, technology. Funding my project will provide my students with opportunities to learn through music, animation and educational applications, which will help them in learning more academic language.
