Music can teach valuable lessons in life, it helps a child in so many ways. The challenges of learning an instrument, persevering, and getting through the hard times, stay forever with a student. Lessons and can crossover from literacy in classroom music to lessons in instrumental music, for instance: "Down by the Bay" I use the book in my 3rd grade classroom music to learn and reinforce rhyming words and in 5th grade as a call and response performing piece. We read the music, sing the song, identify the rhyming words, and then compose our own endings. This is only one of many different classes I teach. I also teach, choir, band, strings, mariachi and classroom music (Tk-8th grade).
