Close Observations Brought to Life
Funded Jan 23, 2018The day the package of doodlers arrived, the children wanted to begin using them right away. The anticipation and excitement was too much to bare in the classroom. They made frequent trips to the computers to see if the pens were charged, waiting to try to replicate their leaf. In anticipation, they revisited their leaf drawings and information about their tree.
The use of the doodlers brought out an intensity and concentration from all students. Some of them found it very challenging but persevered until the leaf was identifiable by other students. This intensity made students really get to know their leaf and the intimate angles. The 3Doodlers brought out strengths of some students that made them shine
where they may not academically.. It was great to see the sense of pride!
As time progressed, the students had more and more opportunities to experiment with the 3Doodler and use them in other projects. We are creating another project where the students will build an emerald ash borer true to size. It has been exciting to see what these 8-9 year old students can produce. The use of a 3Doodler has tapped into another avenue of learning that I didn't think possible at such a young age.
I can't thank you enough for the opportunity of this exciting experience for ALL students. It enabled some students to recognize that they CAN excel at something! It truly has been a gift at so many different levels than anticipated.
Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Frkuska-Heeren
