Funded Feb 17, 2024Thank you for funding this project.
The mini mason jars were a great success! The students enjoyed learning about where food comes from and then, as a grade level, each class made something from scratch to contribute to our shared snack. Our class made the strawberry jelly, another class made bread in a bread machine and the third class made butter. The jars were used to pass out the homemade jelly and butter and with the jars we were able to send the homemade jelly and butter home for families to try as well. This was a great experience for the students as they were able to tell their families what they learned and how we made each item.
The large dart board has been an essential part of our learning how to add 2-digit numbers in groups of ten. We've used it a few times as part of our math lesson and as part of math centers. The students look forward to playing as a team and adding up their amounts.
Much appreciation for providing funds to support the student's learning this year and in future years.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Hawai'i State Department of Education.Readers and Artists All Year Round
Funded Nov 17, 2023I am very appreciative that our Department of Education has chosen to use donated funds to share with teachers as part of a Donors Choose opportunity. This project funded items that our students use as part of our literacy standards as well as integrating art with literacy. The book totes are a way for students to carry their books from school to home. The totes are sturdy and reusable so not only will this year's students be able to use them but students in future first grade classes will also be able to use them, thus saving our landfills from the plastic book totes being thrown away when no longer usable. The students use the Silly Sentences activity during literacy centers to better understand the parts of a sentence and how to create a sentence with proper capitalization and punctuation. This also can be used with future classes. The DVDs & canvas will be used as part of upcoming art projects that will be tied to our literacy topics at the time. These help students earn a love for learning through the arts. Thank you so much for your donation that supports a love for learning through art and literacy.”

Funded Nov 27, 2023I had lost hope that this project would be funded and was so surprised and excited to see it funded on its last day! Thank you so much for donating to this project.
The wipes have been of great benefit in cleaning our desks and classroom surfaces on a regular basis to help prevent the spread of germs. The lap desks are a wonderful learning tool! We used to have only 3 wooden desks available and they were quite the popular item when students did their work on the carpet. With your donation, we have immediately doubled the amount of available lap desks. They are used almost every day by the students and it helps them focus clearly on the objective of the task at hand. The mini fridge is of great use to store ice pops that the students earn as well as other items we use in class during our interdisciplinary lessons. We are currently learning what can happen over time as part of our literacy and social studies standards. As part of this unit, we explore how plants grow and what happens to the fruits and vegetables. In February we will be making strawberry jelly from scratch and the fruit will need to be refridgerated until it's ready to use. This is just one example of how the mini fridge is being used.
Once again, thank you so much for your generous donation.”

When We Feel Good, We Strive For Our Best!
Funded Mar 2, 2023Thank you for funding these items for our classroom. The students' understanding of shapes and how they can connect to create other shapes has been greatly enhanced with hands-on learning using the Pattern Block cards.
The students have also greatly benefited from the Sound Phones. They use them to read their sentences to themselves and especially to hear how the words that they have written sound in a sentence. The use them independently and have access to them throughout the day.
The Addition and Subtraction Towers have helped the students become stronger in basic subtraction and addition basic facts. The love playing the "Jenga-type" game.
These and all of the items are of great benefit to our classroom. Thank you!”

Funded Dec 21, 2022The students much appreciate the donations that enabled us to add items to our classroom. The Math Family Packs are going home on a more regular basis now that we have 10 packs to distribute. The parents have told me that they really enjoy playing the math games and they can see how their child is processing the math skills. The large lego plates are a HUGE success! The students are able to get more creative and have a larger space to build on. They are also builing "communities" using the large plates and sharing their legos with one another. The STEM challenge kits have been a great way to engage the in problem solving and thinking about how to design objects.
We thank all the donors very much as these items will be used not only this year but also next year and in the years to come.”

Learning Fun
Funded Aug 10, 2022We appreciate your donation so much!
We've used the Play-doh for science & writing. We created animals after learning about how parents protect their young. Then we wrote about our animals and shared the stories with one another. The students have also used the double-sided counters for math. It has been a huge help for them to have access to more than 10 counters when adding and subtracting since our math standard is about adding and subtracting up to 20. We are also using the watercolor paper to create our "Magical Christmas"drawings for the school-wide door decorating contest. After drawing them we will be painting them and hanging them on our door. Can't wait to see how it all turns out!”

Funded Jun 19, 2022Thank you for supporting our classroom with these essential materials. The ink for our grade level printer has been a life saver when our copier hasn't been working - which has been often this school year. I've been able to print out copies last minute for work needed for the students. The tens & ones hands-on manipulatives are also beneficial as we did not have enough supplies for everyone to have more than 10 tens towers. Having more than 10 is essential when working with higher numbers and adding 2-digit numbers. The students are using their manipulatives to show what they are learning about place value. It helps me as I walk around to check on their work so I can see what their thinking is. Thank you so much!”

Learn & Explore: In School & At Home
Funded Mar 8, 2022Thank you so much for contributing to this project.
The students are greatly benefiting from the Math Family Pack and many parents have stated how much they are enjoying playing the math games at home with younger and older siblings. This is exactly what I was hoping for when I ordered those.
The students are also benefiting from the daily Number of the Day and they enjoy going up to the large wipe-off chart to put the answers they've come up with. They also enjoy hearing the different ways that others in the class have gotten their answers. They also LOVE to play Jenga and the new math Jenga game is a great addition to our math games for small group work. These are supporting their math skills.
We have been using the people color crayons and wipe off markers on a regular basis and these are a true staple of what we need in our classroom.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Hawai'i State Department of Education and 3 other donors.Daily Writing and Weekly P.E.
Funded Dec 31, 2021The students were very excited to see all of our resources coming in. They loved getting new P.E. and recess equipment. The jump ropes and bean bags have been put to great use! The balls are being used as we learn to play kickball and for safely playing dodgeball.
The students also love doing their daily sentences with their new books. It has really helped them so much in writing better and being more thorough when they write. They practice how to start their sentences with a capital letter and they look for the proper type of punctuation for their sentences. We work on 1 sentence a day as part of our bell work when they come in the classroom.
We have also been using the Daily Schedule chart and the students are better able to see what part of the day we are working on by moving the arrow down as the day goes on. This has become one of our classroom jobs for students as well.
The students appreciate having lego people to include in their lego building adventures. They continue to share their imaginative stories as we use the legos within our curriculum and during rainy day recess.
We look forward to the next few months when we will see how germs exist on our hands as well as use the maps for our geography lessons.”

Mrs. Freudig
