  • Hit a Homerun with Baseball Books

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Thanks to your generous donations two sets of team baseball books have been purchased. One for Ritter Elementary School and one for Sheridan Elementary school. Previously neither library had a set of team baseball books.

Many of the boys in school like to check out team sport books for their leisure reading. Beside football and basketball, they now have baseball teams to choose from as well. Having a wide variety of sports to choose from adds to their reading pleasure.

Sports books increase the incentive for many students to want to check books out of the library and read. It is important for these books to be current, with vibrant pictures and of the students reading level. The new baseball team books meet all this criteria. The boys are already checking the new books out. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Franklin-Ledyard

  • Exploring the World With Books!

    Funded May 5, 2021

Thank you so much for helping to complete a new set of country books for our library! Students and teachers will be so excited to use them for projects and reports. Each book also has links to websites to lead students to further information. These books have beautiful photos and are written just perfectly for the students at our school. Students will also love to check out books from their cultural heritage. Our motto at our school is We all belong. Teaching students about other cultures helps bring understanding and hopefully acceptance of others”

It is so exciting to have a new and updated animal books along with books on the environment, robot books and country books. Students love reading and learning about animals all year long. These beautiful books will be enjoyed by many and will especially be helpful when completing animal reports.

The country books will help to complete a set of country books. Students will use these books not only for reports but to learn about their own heritage. This set is just right for our students. This set will be greatly used.

Thank you all for your generosity. Students will be so excited to see new books in the nonfiction section!”

  • Books Make Us Feel Great!

    Funded Feb 27, 2021

Thank you for helping to purchase social/emotional books for our library. I have been able to use many of these books in lessons on self-esteem, kindness, and using your talents. The students have really enjoyed them.

The younger students have enjoyed listening to and talking about self esteem with the books Cool Cuts, I Like Myself, Jabari Jumps, and Mixed Me. It is so important to begin building self love at an early age and teaching students to believe in themselves.

Students in the middle grades were inspired by Ron's Big Mission, Mae Among the Stars, and Trombone Shorty. Having roles models who look like you and go on to achieve great things can inspire students. Students can dream of one day doing something great.

Many more books will be used in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Franklin-Ledyard

  • Books on Diversity and Inclusion Make Our School a Family

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

Thank you for contributing to the collection of books on diversity and inclusion. These many wonderful books have stories with characters from many different colors, countries, and sex. When a student sees themselves in a character it can empower them.

Students will be reading some of these books during black history month or when doing a biography on a an influential person in their culture. Many of the picture books can be read all year.

Students will definitely enjoy these books when they return from virtual learning. In the mean time I will be reading some on line.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Franklin-Ledyard

  • Capturing the Imagination and Growing the Mind Through Books!

    Funded Mar 5, 2020

Thank you for your generosity! My students will be so excited to have new books in their library. I can't wait to see their faces when I show them all the new books. The books will be flying off the shelves. Inspiring children to love reading will help them to become lifelong learners.

These books will continue to enhance the library with a wide variety of reading materials at various reading levels. The school library is a place that students really enjoy. I read on the carpet to them, they also read independently at tables or on pillow pets and bean bag chairs throughout the library! I teach students to treat books with love and care so we can keep our library and books in good condition, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. I have chosen all of these books with my students in mind. These new books will also allow my students to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level. Student will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
