  • Let's Get This Reading Started!

    Funded May 6, 2020

Thank you once again for your continued support in my classroom. Due to Covid, many of the books were not accessed by the students , so items sat, awaiting the use of this year's students. As we have returned to the classroom, I am excited to offer my students a variety of books from my classroom library.

I am grateful to be able to offer my students a wide variety of novel to read that peak's their interest. Being able to add new books from popular authors to the selection get's students excited about reading. Students are encouraged to read everyday. Now students are selecting their own books instead of the assigned reading to analyze and evaluate the the elements of a text, and discuss the learning with peers with similar interest. Not only are students reading, but they are writing about reading. What a great way to really think deeply about reading.

It is because of folks like you, we have an abundance of texts at our fingertips. Literally, my bookcase is packed and I owe that all to people like you that invests in our future.

Now that we're back in the classroom, we can get back to basics. Reading , writing and discussing great stories. My students are enthusiastic and excited about the upcoming school year. So, let's get this reading started!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fleetwood

  • Supplies, Supplies, Supplies!

    Funded May 27, 2020

Thank you once again for your continued support in my classroom. Due to Covid, many of the items were not accessed by the students , so items sat, awaiting the use of this year's students. As we have returned to the classroom, I am excited to offer my students a variety of supplies because of your generous donation.

When I think of everything we have all been through over the past 18 months , I am grateful to be able to tell my students not to be concerned with pencils, markers, paper, books and all of the daily necessities that some students may not have. It is because of you, they have an abundance of supplies at their fingertips. Literally, my storage cabinet is running over and I owe that all to you. When I send a student to "the cabinet" to retrieve supplies or one of the many novels in my class library, they are in awe by the amount of supplies I have...no, we have.

Now that we're back in the classroom, we can get back to basics. Students can create in ways they had not been able to do last year since learning was built around a digital platform. Writing feels like "old times" and students can illustrate their learning and thinking in a variety of ways. So thank you again, and be on the look-out for pics to document our progress.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fleetwood

  • Technology Transformation

    Funded Aug 4, 2018

I just wanted to take the time to thank you again for your generous donation to my class and to education. What a difference having those 8 chrome books in my class for students to use as needed. We've used them for everything from looking up definitions of words to typing a writing piece.

Having theses chrome books have had a tremendous impact on remediating and extending instruction. With your generosity my students can remain in class when they need to work on an additional assignment for remediation or complete a research project as an extension of their learning. It's so much more convenient than sending them to the computer lab which requires supervision. My students find it very comforting to be able to relax in one of my alternative seating area, grab a chrome book and complete their work and I do too.

Please know that we put this technology to use every chance we get and we have you to thank for that.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fleetwood

We all know how important technology is to our future. When used correctly, technology has the ability to engage, excite and transform student learning. These computers will continue to enhance the technology in the classroom that I strive to create. My goal is to one day have enough Chromebooks for every student in my class so students can work on both individual or group assignments which include research, project based learning, remedial and enrichment programs . The following statement is from one of my former students as he so eloquently expressed the need for additional technology in the classroom. "Technology is the pathway to knowledge. In the past, books and articles were the only source of information, but now information is easily accessible with technology. Some people may think that math or science are the subjects that deserve the most technology because they are the most important, but in actuality Language Arts is the most important subject. Language Arts is how we communicate with the world. Language Arts is our means of relating to each other. Without being able to read or write humans would never become better people. In Language Arts, technology would allow us to do research projects and read interesting stories. We could explore new aspects of knowledge all at the touch of our fingers. My classmates and I all believe in this to our fullest extent." Kevin Jacob, Mrs. Fleetwood’s 6th Grade Language Arts Class (2017-18) According to one student in my class, “Chromebooks provide us with a new level of learning.” Technology should be part of our everyday lives, but technology should especially be a part of our learning.
