  • Increasing Reading Engagement with Storyworks 2!

    Funded Sep 9, 2023

I hope this letter finds you in the best of health and spirits. I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous donation to our second-grade classroom. Your contribution has made a significant impact on the education and development of our young learners, and I am excited to share with you the profound difference it has made in our classroom.

Thanks to your thoughtful donation, we were able to purchase a year-long subscription to the Storyworks 2 Scholastic Magazine. I am thrilled to report that the magazines have been a tremendous asset to our students' education, and they have greatly enriched the learning experience in our classroom.

The Storyworks 2 magazine has not only sparked a passion for reading among our students but has also provided them with resources that resonate with their interests and lives. The carefully curated multigenre texts have engaged our students in a diverse range of stories and topics, helping them develop a love for reading while expanding their knowledge in various subjects.

The impact of the Storyworks 2 magazine on our students has been profound. It has:

    1. **Fostered a Love for Reading:** The engaging stories and articles have captured the imagination of our students, motivating them to read more frequently and independently.

    2. **Expanded Knowledge:** Through the diverse range of articles and topics covered, our students have been exposed to a wide array of subjects, which has broadened their knowledge and curiosity about the world around them.

    3. **Improved Literacy Skills:** Reading multigenre texts has enhanced their comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills, making them better equipped to tackle a wide range of reading materials.

    4. **Cultivated a Lifelong Learning Habit:** The magazine's content has encouraged our students to explore new ideas and continue learning beyond the classroom, instilling a habit of lifelong learning.

Your generous donation has empowered us to provide a valuable educational resource to our second graders, and the positive impact is palpable. Our classroom is filled with the excitement of discovery, and the children are enthusiastic learners who eagerly anticipate each new issue of Storyworks 2. Your support has truly made a difference in our students' lives, and we are immensely grateful for your kindness.

Once again, thank you for your generosity and your commitment to the education of our young learners. We are fortunate to have individuals like you who care deeply about the future of our children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Amarando-Fiordimondo

  • Authentic Decodable Books to Develop the Skills of Competent Readers

    Funded Aug 24, 2023

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude on behalf of my entire second-grade class for your generous donation that enabled us to purchase a wonderful collection of decodable books. Your support has made a profound impact on our reading skills and has ignited a love for reading that is truly remarkable.

When we first received these decodable books, it was like opening a treasure chest filled with adventures waiting to be explored. Our classroom instantly buzzed with excitement as we delved into these engaging texts. These books have not only enhanced our reading skills but also made learning to read an enjoyable and rewarding journey.

The impact of your donation has been tremendous. These decodable books have helped us apply our phonics skills in a real and meaningful way. They are designed in such a way that they support students as they practice by using a continuous, meaningful text. This continuity has been instrumental in reinforcing our phonics lessons and helping us become more fluent and confident readers. We've noticed significant improvements in our decoding abilities, word recognition, and comprehension.

Beyond the academic benefits, these books have also kindled a passion for reading among my students. Their enthusiasm to explore new stories and discover new words is heartwarming. We now have regular reading sessions where the children eagerly take turns reading from the decodable books, and it's truly a joy to witness their progress.

Your generosity has created a lasting impact on our classroom, and we cannot thank you enough. You have empowered a group of young learners to become proficient readers and ignited a love for reading that will serve them well throughout their lives. Your support is not just an investment in our education; it's an investment in our future.

Once again, thank you for your generosity and belief in the power of education. Your kindness has made a world of difference in our lives, and we are deeply grateful for your support. We promise to continue working hard, learning, and growing with these decodable books you've provided us.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Amarando-Fiordimondo

  • Air Purifier for In-Person Classroom Learning!

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

We would like to express our sincere gratitude. The air-purifier has kept our classroom safe from germs while we are learning. Many of our families have expressed their sincere concern about being in the classroom during this time. When we explained that some generous people sent us donations for the purifier they were beyond happy!

Our students have learned how important it is to be kind and think of others through our readings and social emotional units. You have all been role models to them and we speak of you often when teaching the lesson of giving. In our recent reading we discussed after reading "The Giving Tree" how giving makes people feel happy when they see others enjoy the benefits of their gift. We used all of you as an example.

Since having the purifier in our classroom we feel safe and are able to stay healthy while learning in our "home away from home." Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Amarando-Fiordimondo

  • Tablets - a Perfect Learning Companion!

    Funded Dec 29, 2018

Thank you again for your generosity. The tablets that you helped us receive have really allowed me to make learning more engaging and has greatly expanded our access to information. We have been able to take virtual trips to the places we are learning about. For example, we read about the Arctic and Death Valley. Our tablets have allowed students to view real videos of these places and learn what it is like to be in these amazing spots.

We have also been able to video tape our performances and class projects so that we can send to our parents to make them feel like they are in the classroom with us. Some parents are not able to visit the classroom as often as they would like so this makes them feel like they are taking an active part in their education.

The tablets are used daily in our room. We play word games to assist in language building, we look up definitions and the spelling of words when we are editing. Some of us even read texts using text to speech apps. The tablets really help our strugglers access texts that they would not be able to independently. My students are so excited about learning and you have helped us reach this level!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Amarando-Fiordimondo

  • Who Are Important People in History?

    Funded Jan 23, 2015

The students can not put down the new biographies that you have helped purchase for our classroom! Each child has chosen an important person from history to read about. We have created our own stamps honoring the person they have read about, the children have dressed as their person and wrote clues so the class can guess who they are, they have pretended to be the person and wrote a narrative telling about their accomplishments, and they have taught classmates why their person is so important to history. My students have gained background knowledge and have an understanding of how people can overcome challenges, and have learned that hard work does pay off. They now know who is responsible for inventions that they use everyday, laws that they follow, and the equal rights that they now have. It was so rewarding to see them learn and have fun at the same time. In the past, the children were fighting over books, and reading out dated books that were not as motivating. I see them choose biographies for their independent choice books and switching books with their friends. They are talking about historical events and have an expanded vocabulary because of their exposure to the wonderful biographies that you helped us add to our class library! We will never forge”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Amarando-Fiordimondo
