Every Child Is An Artist
Funded Sep 13, 2024I can't thank you enough for your generous donations! Students in fourth and fifth grade have been able to explore the paint markers and all of their versatility! We created pop art neon shoe portraits that will hang in our all school art show in April!
The students in art club were able to use the gelli plates to explore a mono print printmaking process.
The other materials like colored pencils and papers have updated our shelves and supplies the students with their essential needs in the art room.
The students were very excited to hear about your gift to us and showed so much thanks through some cards they made and should be shared with you soon.
One of the quotes I leave my students with at the end of their elementary career is never stop challenging yourself creatively. These materials have inspired just that and more. Thank you so so much for your thoughtfulness.”

Carving Time For Art
Funded Apr 10, 2019Since coming back from maternity leave my kids have been so excited to start a new year with me. I explained the project that we will be working on using the new materials and they are thrilled!
Students in 7th grade will be creating prints from the printmaking materials to sell at their upcoming art show to raise money for child homelessness in the city where we reside.
While we have not started working with the material yet, we will start in the next week, after fall break! Thank you so much for your continued support and know that your donation will be reaching children even outside of your school with the art sold!”

Mrs. Feldman

Funded Dec 4, 2017We are well into our sculpture project in 4th and 5th grade and it is unbelievable to see the investment these kids have in their work. Some of these children have never made 3d art before and they have found that this is what they love to do! Students come to class EARLY to help set up and put out materials. They work in teams to make sure we clean up properly to ensure we get to create more projects like this in the future. I was not surprised when the kids started creating that this might be their favorite project. I have not seen the students this excited about art all year. The students have been working on their Romero Britto inspired animals for about 2 weeks now, sculpting out of the styrofoam, covering with paper mache and finally they will begin painting in their wacky colors and patterns this week! Thank you so much for all of the donations to this art room, it is greatly appreciated and I think you'll see that in the personal notes from the students.”

Funded Dec 13, 2016I would like to thank you on behalf of all of my students, past, present and future and my administration! Everyone including myself was so excited to hear that our project had been fulfilled! This means so much to the art department and to the importance of arts in public education. When students, and even administration see the donations coming in for such a subject they are reminded or taught the significance and importance of visual art for all students!
One of the materials that were paid for with this donation are the watercolor brushes. There is nothing better to a student than picking out and really identifying their "favorite" brush when painting. It gives them a sense of ownership and pride in their work. The students who used the brushes were very excited to see the new brushes with many different shapes and sizes tips to choose from.
When students saw the mirrors bought for self portraits they were so excited that they wanted to start that project next! This simple tool is something that will give students another source to use when drawing realistically. They can really look at themselves identifying features on their faces that make them unique.
I am on maternity leave for the rest of the school year, but when I return students will continue to use all of the wonderful materials to complete projects, including the ancient cultural masks with clay and glazes, watercolor paintings with the new brushes and paper, and the mirrors and drawing pencils to create unique self portraits.”

Creative Exploration
Funded Jan 15, 2016From my students and myself, thank you very much for your last donation to my art classroom! My students were thrilled to learn of the materials they would be using this year because of your donation.
The eighth graders had the pleasure to work with clay to build their ancient cultural masks and they have turned out wonderfully! Each student researched a country/culture to be inspired by to create a mask.
Eighth graders used the cray-pas to draw a copy of their favorite famous painting. They used a graph to draw accurately and really enjoyed the texture of the cray-pas to add color. This is definitely a new favorite!
All grade levels learned about the traditions of creating a sand mandala. They recreated their own using the great paper and added color with either colored pencil or watercolor paint. These turned out great and they impressed their math teachers!
Thank you so much for your valuable donation. I know that these students will always remember this art class and how much more we were able to do because of wonderful people like you!”

Developing Innovation Through Art
Funded Feb 19, 2016We owe you a round of applause! The donations have been put to use by purchasing all of these wonderful art supplies for the classroom. Students have greatly appreciated the contribution and it shows through their efforts and the outcome of their projects! Students wouldn't be able to paint with watercolor or build with clay if it weren't for YOU! The students were beyond excited to be able to work with clay to build their masks. The watercolor colored pencils were a huge hit with 7th graders when they made kaleidoscope inspired colorful drawings. The 6th graders really enjoyed learning about color theory and mixing colors in their watercolor food portrait project. They have learned so much about their own capabilities through this experience. Children at this education level need that extra push and motivation to believe in themselves and having members of their community and even out of state people believe in them brings a sense of confidence and a positive outlook on their own futures. Thank you so much on behalf of my students and of course from myself as well as our school.”

No Boundaries Learning Through Art
Funded Feb 7, 2015I am overjoyed by the outpouring of support my classroom received by none other but my family and friends! My students have been so thankful to use these new and exciting materials for their current projects. When the boxes of supplies were brought into the room my students were arguing over who got to open and inspect and put away the new goodies! Some students were familiar with the fancy colored pencils and other beautiful art materials, but most were not. My students all have their own story but just to give you an idea of the type of student you have made an impact on, I'll let you in on one of their journeys. I have an excellent motivated 8th grade student whom I've had all year that shared with me an incredible piece of his life. He came to America in 2010 as a refugee from Burma in South East Asia. Many of my students share similar stories to him, but when he showed up to the art show that I put his self portrait in, his story brought me to tears. He was enlightening myself and my husband on his journey to freedom and the many obstacles he had to face to reach it. The country that he lived in was and is still war torn and people have been fleeing for their lives since he can remember. He had been arrested in his home country as a 10 year old trying to flee with a neighbor. Once he was reunited with his family they started their trip to Thailand where eventually they caught a migrant ship to the states. He told us the hardest part was that for days they could not talk to their family on the ship in fear that they would be caught and thrown in jail. He was so grateful and pleased that I chose his artwork for the art show, and he couldn't have done it without the support of you all!
All grade levels have been able to enjoy the drawing pencils as well as the colored pencils. My 7th graders have drawn excellent still lives of their sneakers which was so much fun and they turned out wonderfully. They learned about observation and how to study an object in order to recreate it in a realistic drawing. My 8th graders used the colored pencils and drawing pencils to draw a "selfie transformed". They chose something or someone that they would want to transform into, and using a graph they draw half of their own face from a picture and half of their chosen transformation. These came out great, and they really enjoyed the colored pencil blending qualities.
Not only did the supplies help my students to become motivated in art, but they also have a new appreciation and even a desire to do nice things for other people because of the support they received from people that don't even know them! They were taken back by the generous donation and they can not wait to give their thanks by doing nice things for others. I am so happy to have a classroom where I can teach a variety of concepts using a variety of materials now. This has jump started the art program at my school and I'm so proud to have the support that I do. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

Innovation Through Art
Funded Dec 19, 2014My students were so excited when I told them we had supplies donated to us! They were surprised and happy and excited to see what they would be doing with all the new goodies!
When the boxes came in, I was teaching one of my 8th grade groups. They stopped what they were doing and helped make room for the boxes. This group was most looking forward to the clay because they have been anticipating making ancient cultural clay masks.
All of my students have been impacted by your generous donation. My 6th graders made some wonderful caricature drawings of the United States presidents using drawing pencils and the great drawing paper donated. My 7th graders made excellent drawings of their shoes after learning how to draw from observation. They learned how to use the different values of pencils to make their shoes look 3d and real! My 8th graders made their ancient cultural masks based on their own culture. I gave them a packet full of resources for them to find inspiration for their mask. They learned even more about their own cultures as well as the properties of clay and the patience that comes along with it. All of my students were so successful with this project and I can see an overwhelming amount of newfound confidence in my classroom.
The projects that were funded have made such an impact on my students perspective on art class. They have found excitement in expressing their own creativity. I have witnessed more "ah ha" moments during these projects than I have all year. The entire learning environment has been uplifted, the students who used to be distracted are now displaying the confidence and has them focusing on their artwork. I can't thank you enough for this donation. To you it may be just a small gesture to education, but to my classroom, my students, and myself this has been the difference that we needed. We all needed this excitement and moral and open mindedness that you have given us through these supplies and through your generosity.”

Mrs. Feldman
