Adding Bight Colors to an Extraordinary Bunch!
Funded Jan 27, 2022We cannot thank you enough for making learning fun, engaging, and colorful because of your contributions to "Adding Bight Colors to an Extraordinary Bunch" project.
We decided to create this project, because our student needed more focus and attentiveness. Being an ICT classroom, our students are diverse set of learners who require unique teaching styles. During whole group and small group students are given targeted instruction based on their needs.
The colorful post-its, and markers have allowed them to take ownership of their learning in reading and math. During read aloud they enjoy jotting down on the bright colored post-its their thoughts and wonderings.
In math, during assessment, they look forward to completing their exit tickets on those PINK slips to solve problems. They even enjoy independence of getting their materials in the math and writing stations just to use brightly colored markers on their dry erase boards.
Your contributions are alive and present in our classroom, and have given our students the gift of engagement, creativity, independence and love for learning. Many thanks for your generosity and thoughtfulness.”

Funded Dec 12, 2021Thank you for your generous donation for all the hygiene and classroom materials you selflessly gave to our students. Our students were beaming with excitement when they saw those boxes filled with materials just for them. "Wow, that was so kind of them" one student replied when we explained who donated to their needs.
From the moment they walk into the classroom, our students are daily greeted with clean desk and a fresh surrounding to start their day. The sanitation station next to the door reminds them to keep the environment "germ free" as they independently wipe away and sanitize their work space after lessons using the Clorox wipes, soap, and paper towel.
During phonics students use their dry erase markers to jot down their sight words, and phonics skills. They use their bookmarks during reading and the laminating strategies are hanging along side their desk. Laminating sheets keep their materials durable and well-organized at the same time.
Students were thrilled to see their reading sign "R.E.A.D" light up again. "Yay, the sign is back!" one students shouted when we added the new batteries to the sign and turn on the clock to begin independent reading- They were motivated and it has help to even pushed their reading stamina.
Again, we say a special THANK YOU for your generosity and helping to keep our students motivated to explore, inspired to stay healthy, and dedicated to learning!”

Funded Apr 28, 2021We decided to create a "Multicultural Library" specifically during our school's Black History Month theme- "History is Now".
It's was a fitting theme considering all that has happened in the last year- both beautiful moments and those filled with sorrow. We the teachers believed years from now, this time will be studied in classrooms across the country.
Riverdale Avenue Community School is also making history now by fostering our pedagogy to push beyond our comfort zone for our students.
During Read aloud my Co-teacher and I were commitment to teaching black and brown past and present history and creating a space for our students' identities and voices.
Seeing their expressions when they saw representations with books like "I am enough, Hair Love, and Chocolate Me!" made this project even more fulfilling.
"That's me right there," one student predicted while taking a sneak peak before reading.
"I think its going to be about a happy black boy" another predicted.
Creating this project and seeing it alive, present, and tangible in the lives of our students
is cultivating the brilliance and beauty of our children and their histories.
This library stand as essential as our literacy and mathematics work because this work impacts the core of who our students are. Thank you so much for choosing us and giving selflessly.”

Soaring Third Grade Creative Marvels
Funded Aug 26, 2018The students in 3-411 have been truly appreciative of your generosity. From the moment I told them about the project, their faces lit up with joy knowing that someone cared enough to invest in their lives. One particular student responded by saying, "They are far to kind." Another one highlighted how cool it was to get treats! Others were delighted when they saw the huge bottle of hand sanitizer I pulled out of the box. "Now we'll keep the germs away," one particular child said. They are delighted in also keeping the classroom clean and practicing hygiene by volunteering to come up early before class and wipe down the tables with the Clorox wipes they received. Many thanks again!
We have been using out black pens during writers, and reading workshop. During those periods of writing students use the pens to do "Stop and Jots" on the post-its where they stop and think about their thoughts and wondering of their books they are reading. There are table leaders on each table designated to monitor and keep pens inside the supply station for everyone to access. The table leaders refill and keep tables stocked with the supplies. We are putting the copy paper to creative use. During science week students were grouped in stations and had to create habitat project, designing a habitat and an animal to live in it. They used their creative minds and created some amazing invented homes all using paper.
Our next step as a class is to continue to practice good personal hygiene and making sure we protect each other from bacterial, virus and germs during this winter season.
A simple gesture of knowing that they are in reach of tissue to wipe their nose won't be taken for granted. We will continue our work of good hygiene as a class and shine through the school, hoping to be examples to many other students at large! Our sincere and utmost thanks for your generosity to this deserving students! Until next time...”
