Our students attend a school in a low socioeconomic school district. This means there are a high number of free and reduced lunches. There are also a lot of students who come from broken homes and may spend most of their time alone or with a sibling. These children are often the victims of being bullied by older children or are not treated well at home. The increasing economic crisis facing our nation has also affected our school district in very destructive ways. There have been major budget cuts that have limited the resources for the students and teachers. There has been a decrease on the availability of professional development outside the district. These budget costs have caused our district to furlough teachers and staff which has increased class sizes. This leaves the teacher with more students, more behavior problems and a larger range of student ability in the room. This decreases the amount of time a student may need for one on one attention.
