  • Read All About It!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students will now have a teacher with the financial resource to purchase materials to enhance their learning. This not only helps with my current students, but with future classes as well.

Thank you for supporting education. Thank you for making a difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Elsea

  • Math Enrichment

    Funded Jun 3, 2024

Thank you so very much for your generous donations! Because of donors like you, I will be able to provide materials for math enrichment above and beyond what our current math program provides. I hope to be able to engage and encourage their natural curiosity and help ALL students find a love for math.”

    Funded May 8, 2023

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous donation! My students will benefit from this gift for YEARS to come. The students I teach are all at different levels with their math skills. I often feel that the higher level learners are left out. This will help provide the enrichment that is needed.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Elsea

  • Read All About It!!

Thank you so much for funding my project. My first graders will now have access to decodable books. These books will align with our phonics program. I plan to send decodable work home nightly with my students to show their parents what they are learning. Thank you again for your generosity!”

    Mrs. Elsea

  • We LOVE to Read!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations to help provide books for our classroom. The students have enjoyed them so much.

The students in our classroom have experienced learning loss due to school closures because of covid-19. The students in our classroom needed lower level books to help us close the gap. During our independent reading time, the students are able to use these books to help grow their reading stamina, trick word fluency, and decoding skills.

The books that you helped provide have also help support the English Language Learners that are part of our classroom. These books have helped build their confidence as readers!

Thank you again for your generous donations to our classroom library!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Elsea

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill Gates and 4 other donors.
  • Books! Books! Books!

    Funded Oct 1, 2020

Thank you so very much for your generous donations. The students were so very excited to receive new books for their book boxes.

The students and I have been able to use these books during our small group reading lessons. We have reinforced the usage of our trick words, and the skills required to "tap out" the words in the book. The pictures provide clues to the words and the students are able to use those to help with unfamiliar words. My kiddos have also been able to put these books in their individual book boxes!

We follow a Reader's Workshop model. The students have time to read to themselves as well as time to read with their partners. I spend time with students individually, as well as with small groups. Due to the loss of in-person learning last spring, our reading levels were lower than normal. My students were really struggling with the lack of books at their levels. These new books have given them more choices of both fiction and non-fiction books.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Elsea

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 6 other donors.
  • Wanted: Space for Phonics and Writing!

    Funded Jan 17, 2020

My students and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donations! We are using the white board daily for our phonics lesson and our writing lesson.

I wish that I could send you a video of their excited faces when our custodian brought the white board into our rooms. Their mouths were wide open and their eyes were huge! They said they had never seen a white board that big before. They asked if I could move our phonics card over and have an extra phonics lesson that day!

Thank you again for your donations! You have definitely made an impact on the students in Mrs. Elsea's first grade classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Elsea

  • Organizational Tools to Help Create Independent Readers

    Funded Mar 22, 2015

I can't begin to express my appreciation for your donation to my project. It is great to see that you share my vision for reaching ALL of my kiddos!

The tools that you have funded will enable each student to have their own reading basket, with books at their own levels. Center time will be more organized, which will allow us be more productive. I look forward to implementing The Daily 5, and I know these tools you have helped supply, will make this possible!

Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. I can't wait to introduce these tools to the children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Elsea

I am the teacher of a classroom of fun and challenging first grade special education students! The students I get to spend my day with WANT to read! The kiddos face many challenges and have diagnoses of Specific Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Disturbance, and many have suffered some form of trauma in their young life. Most of my kiddos lack the skills needed to become a successful independent reader. Since their knowledge and skills are not the same, it is important to provide differentiated teaching opportunities and books that are specific to their individual level. Many students struggle to focus and need opportunities to release extra energy! Our school is located in a rural area and we are a high-poverty school district. Unfortunately, funding for extra items in the classroom is limited.
