This is my first year at this school, and the first year teaching reading intervention. With this being an intervention class with only 16 students per class, I am looking to make it more of a warm and inviting learning environment. The only furniture I currently have for them are their desks, one couch and a few floor pillows...and those are always where students gravitate to work at in the classroom. When able to find a comfortable spot of their own, they have expressed it helps them stay engaged in their reading, which is key in building reading fluency. I want this classroom to feel more like a home and less like a classroom. With flexible seating options like: floor cushions, area rug, computer stands and bean bags--students will be able to pick a place to work where they can find the most successI Being that majority of their reading novels are online, the computer stands will help hold up their Chromebooks while reading while in their comfy spots. The clipboards and folders are of huge demand when working on reading logs and writing assignments when in the class library I'm positive that by adding some more seating options...my students will find a comfortable place to work and learn, and improve their reading skills.
