I recently relocated the furniture in my media center to put a living room setting front and center. Sure I want my students to experience the makerspace and use the computers, but I don't want them to forget the books and the importance of reading. After moving the furniture, I liked the vibe but not the appearance. The couch and chairs are over 20 years old, and it shows! They are faded and have tears that give off the appearance of being over 20 years old, NOT a spot to curl up with a good book. These chairs were specifically chosen because of their dotted pattern, which says whimsy and comfy! I know these chairs will be a favorite spot for my students to read. What joy that can bring to a child's busy day, when given the chance to spend a few minutes lost in a good book.
