Integrating Technology in Pre-K

Funded Dec 5, 2018

I want to express my sincere thanks for your generosity in your donations! The I-pads couldn't have come at a better time. All of the computers and other small electronic devices in the classroom had become obsolete and impossible for the children to use. I wrapped up the I-pads and created a big hype about a surprise gift that had come for just our classroom. The children opened the gifts together and the looks on their faces were priceless.

I started by modeling how to care for and handle the I-pads so that we can protect our new technology in order for it to last a long time. Then I introduced some basic apps for the students to use during work time. These include Leap Frog Academy, PBS kids, Park Math, and Todo Math. These are easy to use and include fun games that integrate letter recognition, letter sounds, letter writing formation, number recognition, counting, and many other skills. After the children become confident in using these apps I plan on purchasing some more advanced apps.

In February we are going to begin growing an Amaryllis bulb and start a unit on indoor gardening. We will use our I-pads to document and track the growth of our Amaryllis as well as the seedlings in our indoor garden box.

One student in particular has been very excited to use the I-pads. She said she has always wanted to use one and has become our "tech expert." If any student needs help while using the I-pads they go to this little girl because she has become so knowledgeable.

We are looking forward to integrating our technology into our classroom studies as the year progresses! Thank you again for making this dream come true!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Dornbos
