Hard to Work on an Empty Stomach
Funded Feb 28, 2017I want to start by saying thank you from the bottom of my heart. My students and I are so grateful for your kindness and generosity. I am able to make sure my students are fed when they come to class hungry. I have a few students that were in need the day the healthy snacks were delivered and I was able to give them a bar. I have also made care packages for my students that are in need of hygiene products.
I was so happy when the packages arrived, I started screaming. After my students realized what I was screaming about, they too were excited. My students are so happy to know that they have somewhere to go when they need a snack. A granola bar is such a little object but it is a really big deal to a hungry child.
In the upcoming weeks, we are going to be preparing for the State math test. For my students, passing this test is the first step in meeting their graduation requirements. This is another reason why having these snacks are such a monumental gesture for my students. Having a empty stomach while studying for a big test is not the best thing. ”

Funded Nov 20, 2015Thanks to you the students of Miami Central SHS room 3321 have benefited tremendously. We have been able to simulate the testing situation with the calculators you provided. Our students have high levels of testing anxiety, therefore the more opportunities they have to practice what testing day will be like the greater their opportunity to pass. The students have also used the art supplies to be able to make posters for review.
When I brought in the boxes of material the students were in shock. I unwrapped the materials one box at a time like it was Christmas day. It was so exciting to for the students to finally have enough calculators to not have to share. The idea that someone cared enough about them to give them classroom supplies was overwhelming.
As the End-of Course exam rapidly approaches, we are still working to ensure that each of our students is prepared. The calculators and art supplies allowed the students to not only practice using the calculators they will use on test day, but also create key review posters to help them study.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Mckinney
