  • A Snack Today Can Keep the Hanger Away

    Funded Feb 14, 2025

How can I put into words just how much your donations have helped my students. Let me begin by saying that my students have healthy appetites. Unfortunately, they do not always have the resources to get food. These snacks have been a lifeline for my hungry students and my grocery budget.

The students have come (some daily) to request a snack. I know that these chips, crackers, and snack foods may be the only things they eat during school. It is with the highest gratitude that I say thank you not only myself but also my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mckinney

  • Let's Get Ready for Testing!

    Funded May 3, 2022

Testing is not easy on anyone. The students were stressed and anxious and my job was to make sure they were calm enough to succeed. The snacks provided were a refreshing surprise for the students. I made brown bags with a love notes for each student so they know how much we believed to them.

The students were so surprised to see the quality of snacks in the bags. You were an essential piece of that puzzle. They were so happy to have a snack during testing. It helped them to stay awake and alert during their state assessment.

My students have completed their assessments. They did an excellent job showing up and completing the tests. They truly enjoyed the test snacks.”

  • S.O.S - Save Our Students

    Funded Aug 21, 2021

Covid-19 has not let up. I wish I could say it was not still impacting our classroom but that is not the case. As of today, many more of my students have been quarantined or absent due to illness. I continue to mask up and encourage my students to do same to protect ourselves as much as we can. The disinfectant wipes are a major help in this fight. As we share deck from class to class, I have to clean the desk between classes. I also disinfect the door.

The students are most thankful for the clean surfaces and fresh smell of the class. They are also happy for the soap to wash their hands and paper towels to dry them. The ability to keep clean as much as possible is a relief for me. At the time share is not caring so have enough pencils to give freely to students that

I am one of the many teachers who show up to work everyday to get my all to the students in my care. I do all that I can to keep this class and Covid-safe place.”

  • Teaching Our Girls Math

    Funded Oct 9, 2020

Teaching during this crazy time as been a challenge. As I make adjustments daily to facilitate learning, the materials your dollars helped to provide makes is that much easier. Being able to use the wireless headphones to walk away from the computer and teach from the board is about the most normal activity I can do now. I also use the writing tablet to annotate on the board so my at home students can learn as my in person students do. Needless to say, this school year is not like any other with the number of obstacles we have faced. However, the technology you have helped to provide has eased some of the heartache and makes me smile.”

  • Distance Learning in the New Year

    Funded Aug 22, 2020

Thank you all once again for kindness and generosity during a time when people are just trying to stay alive. I do not take for granted the sacrifices you have made to give to my class.

I have already used the resources you gave and wow what a difference it has made. Being able to accurately write and draw on the screen, so the students at home have the same experience as the students in person is awesome. I can solve equations and the numbers and variables actually looked like what I write. It was a struggle trying to write with the mouse. The webcam has enabled me to stop using my phone to Zoom with my classes. These things are so simple, but I am grateful to have them.”

  • Keeping COVID at Bay

    Funded Aug 22, 2020

I want to start by thanking you again. I am always floored by the generously of other for my students. It is your kindness that help my students understand that we are living in a global community and we have to stick together.

I have returned to the classroom and these supplies are a critical. I have already used the cleaning supplies to wipe down the desks and chairs. I have made sure the hand sanitizer is by the door and available for the students to use upon entry into class. I know the supplies we have will make us safer from day to day.”

  • Picking Up Better Habits

    Funded May 18, 2017

My students have been so appreciative of the snack bars and juice. There are mornings when I have students that have not had breakfast and the Kind bars is a welcomed source of nourishment. I have been able to giving students a bar before they went to take state test that they need for graduation. Those are the moments where you and I share the joy of being a part of something awesome. These students are need food and words of encouragement so they can focus on doing their best on the test. I also have been able to send students home with a few bars and juice when we were out during Hurricane Irma.”

  • New Year but Same Issues

    Funded Aug 7, 2017

Your generous donation is received with love. The items we received are such a blessing to the students in my classroom. The shirts were used for a few students who needed a uniform shirt. There are various reason why students need a shirt from unwashed laundry to not being able to afford them, but thanks to you they now have one.

The students were so happy when I offered them a soup or mac and cheese when they said they were hungry and did not eat lunch. By having food available to eat when they don't have anything else to eat they are sometime speechless.

I will continue to have snack and lunch item available for the students because they need to know they are loved.”

  • What's in Your Contract?

    Funded May 15, 2017

Any teacher will tell you that being able to print is so vital in the classroom. When our printer died from old age, we were in bad shape. There are so worksheets and projects that we could not do because there was not way for us to print them out. Thank you for the printer and toner. This printer has been our life line. With this printer we have been able to print out resources to farther our knowledge on the importance of reading to fine print. Furthermore, I have been able to print additional resources for my students to understand Algebra 1 better.”

  • Got Lunch

    Funded Mar 14, 2017

What a blessing to have someone like to give to my students. In my experience students thrive when they are fed. One of my students does not always have food at home. Thanks to you I was able to give that child a box of Mac and cheese to put in the cabinet for hungry nights. I have another student who never eats lunch in the cafeteria and comes to class hungry almost every afternoon, I have now put a cup case of soup aside for that kid. I have told them that the thanks going to you and DonorsChoose for providing hot food.

In our school students don't go to the restroom because of the lack of toilet tissue. At this time my girls can go to the restroom and not hold their bladders. I laughed this week as word has gotten out and now girls from other classes are coming to ask for toilet tissue.”

I work in a urban, inner-city, title 1 funded school. My class consist of the lowest 25-30% of 9th graders in Math and Reading, which mean they didn't pass the state exam. There are students with language barriers, socio-economic challenges, and learning disabilities. Math is a difficult subject to get students re-engaged with once they have had a negative experience related to math in any way.
