Learning to Love Learning Even At-Home
Funded Dec 29, 2020I wanted to take time to share with you how we've been able to use the amazing bookpacks filled with at home learning materials that you helped purchase for our kindergarten class. The materials are bright and vibrant. Students were so excited to open and explore their new supplies.
This year looks so different for us, as you surely know. We are currently in a hybrid model where a small group of students remain remote while our remaining students attend in-person two days per week. This makes it difficult to create the same sense of community and level of investment on the part of the students. Using the beautiful set of materials that you funded more easily allows for engagement and sense of connectedness and unity.
Helping students see themselves as learners at home and school helps students develop a mindset of being flexible learners no matter where they find themselves. Helping students establish the mindset as a learner is half the battle. With your help they are achieving this goal.”
With gratitude,

Funded Oct 23, 2020I wanted to take time to share with you how we've been able to use the amazing books that you helped purchase for our kindergarten class. The books have bright and vibrant illustrations that allow for our students to immediately engage with the text. This allows early readers to connect to the stories. Non-fiction is especially compelling and engaging for some of our students.

Many students who don't consider themselves "readers" love it when I stress that good readers also "read" the pictures. They will often exclaim, "I am reading the pictures!" Helping students establish the mindset as a reader is half the battle. With your help they are achieving this goal.”

From here we can discuss characters, setting, illustrations, and mechanics in a fun way.

Funded Jul 9, 2017Thank you for your generous donations. Students continue to benefit year after year from having the opportunity to explore their world around them through nature. By encouraging their questioning and sense-making skills.
One of the unforeseen impacts have been in developing empathy for the world around them. Initially I only considered the academic components but saw the ripples in terms of how they looked at the world. Discussions surrounding kindness, being a caretaker or their environment, and a friend all continue to come to the forefront of our lessons.
It is through the actions of people like you that we, as educators, are able to encourage these life long skills in the classroom.”
