  • Unlock the Rhythm: Bucket Drumming Sticks for our Budding Musicians!

    Funded Dec 31, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity and making this project become a reality for our students in the Brockton Public Schools! We cannot wait to get to work with our students helping them to build essential musical and non-musical knowledge and skills that can be learned thought bucket drumming and being a member of a music ensemble. Thank you for supporting the music education of our students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Desmond

  • Ukeleles for Middle School!

    Funded Sep 12, 2019

I want to take a moment to thank all of you for your generosity. My students are truly enjoying the opportunity to play ukulele's in school. Their ability to understand different musical concepts has increased greatly with the ability to learn through playing.

The other day in class we were able to play along with "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley. The students were so excited that they were able to play the entire song! Once we had played the song, we were able to talk about the chord structure and the form of the song. Students were also able to understand the difference between the chorus and the verse based on the chord structure used during the song. Up next is "The Lion Sleeps Tonight!"

I am so excited for all that my students will learn in the future by playing the ukulele. There is a desire that they have to play more songs, learn more chords and to create their own music. Thank you again for your donation, you have truly made a difference in the life of the students here at West Middle School!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Desmond

  • Drums Needed for World Music Drumming

    Funded May 16, 2012

We recently received our tubanos that were funded through this project. The excitement in my classroom was incredible as we opened up the boxes for the first class with the new drums. The best way to describe it: Christmas came early! There were cheers and "oohs" and "aahs" to boot!

I wasn't sure that the excitement of playing them would match that of opening the boxes, but I was wrong. We had so much fun in my classes and are continuing to have fun every day we play the drums. Students are so excited about getting multiple turns playing these drums and they keep saying how awesome the tubanos are. We play these drums every other day and on days we don't play, students are always checking to make sure we will be playing the next day.

Thank you all so much for your generosity, this donation to my classroom has made such a positive impact on my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Desmond

My students are eager to learn middle school students in a low income community. This year we began drumming in music class and it has proved to be the most enjoyed activity we do while in music. When they line up for class, students will ask "Are we drumming today?" While in class, students are eager to help one another learn different parts and will also teach one another proper drum technique (i.e. how the drum should be held and played). Since we do not have drum equipment, students have been using various sized buckets as drums. We currently have six buckets that we use in classes that have twenty-five students (average). When students do not have a "drum" to use they pat the rhythms on their legs. Although this can be an effective technique, students have to wait five to ten minutes before getting to play a drum.
