Chromebooks for Math Class
Funded Jan 18, 2017I want to first express my thanks for donating to my student's. The need for technology in our classrooms is important to allow students to be accustomed to working on devices as they will continue to do in their lives, to learn more material, and utilize online programs available to us.
In my classroom, we use technology for various reasons. Some of these reasons are to find different definitions of math vocabulary, some with pictures explaining the terms in ways that benefit visual learners. I use technology to quickly graph examples so we can spend time talking about the relationship in the graphs rather than spend time talking about how to graph the example. I also use technology for early finishers to have relevant material to work on to enhance their mathematical education. I also use technology in my classroom to teach self-responsibility for student's grades. They can use the chromebooks to look up their grades so they are aware of what classes need their attention. There are many other ways I use technology and I am sure I will find many new ways as the years progress.
Again, the need for technology in classrooms is so important for students these days and I truly appreciate your donation!”

Funded Nov 20, 2015I want to thank you for your generous donations to fund Chromebooks for my classroom.
We have used these chromebooks frequently. The students use the chromebooks for their SEM learning (Student Enrichment Learning) the most. First we used them consistently in our cluster courses that meet once a week. The clusters we used them in were on learning about weather and creating origami. Students also used them on individual research projects when they compacted out of a math unit by knowing the material already. Some of the research topics my students chose were about space shuttles, structure of buildings, finance/economics and the effect music has on our lives. Very diversified topics that generally aren't covered in junior high.
The students also use the chromebooks for our classroom work. We were able to use them for our geometry units. We used Geogebra online for transformations and constructions. This helped solidify our understanding of translations, rotations, reflections, and constructions of many geometric shapes with just a compass and a ruler. The students enjoyed being able to manipulate shapes and created some fantastic math art by doing it. Early finishers of the assignments also got to use the chromebooks for Moby Max, a program our school uses to help with math, science, and language arts. I assign at least 30 minutes a week so students can get that homework out of the way in classroom if they have finished their daily assignments.
So far, I think the student's favorite use of the technology is when we use it to review for tests and quizzes. Our favorite it Kahoot!, where we can create and play a multiple choice game on our standards. The students love the competitive nature of the review and the reward is self gratification. They learn to like to know what they need to know so they will beat their friends! The names are all alias, so any student still struggling with the concept is not identified, so there is no fear of losing, just boasting if you're a winner of a question!
As you can see, we have found several ways to use the technology already. I'm sure I will find many more in the years to follow. Thank you again for your donations!”
