Sensory integration provides a foundation for more complex learning and behavior. Sensory challenges can affect the student's ability to take in information, respond to requests, participate in social situations, write, and maintain a calm and ready-to-work state. Positive reinforcement is a great tool to help our population understand what is expected from them. Sensory for them might mean a smell, taste, or feeling and textures and it is important to identify and use the different sensory reinforcements according to each individual need, this reinforcements are use based on a token system and or money system depending on the student's level, they earn money to buy the items or work to earn tokens and earn the reinforcement, it's all based on the student's IEP behavior goals and it's aim to decrease violent or aggressive behavior. There is much that can be done to help alter the environment and provide the support that will make the world a less overwhelming place for a student with autism.
